Can I remove Both CV Axles at the same time?

I am preparing my truck for my new Sonoran Steel 1.2 Lift Kit. I was also replacing the front UCA and LCA, Tie rods and maybe the brakes with the Tundra upgrade. Having said that I have basically everything removed right now.
One of my friends came over who happens to be a Mechanic at a Ford dealership said that because I removed both CV axles at the same time my diff probably fell apart on the inside.

I am just trying to figure out if I need to take off the entire assembly and fix my failure.

P.S. I re-booted and re-greased my CV axles a couple years ago and If I remember correctly I thought I removed both at the same time. I cannot remember for certain though.

lol, it worries me when mechanics say stuff like that. Like Kevin said, there is no problem removing them both. Otherwise, how else would you get the front diff out?!

Just curious though, why are you removing them? Just to get them out of the way?

Worked at Toyota and now Ford. I'm not aware of any vehicle in either brand where that is true. Wonder where he heard that.

Just another glorified parts changer that calls himself a "mechanic".

There are far too many of them around unfortunately.

There were some old drivetrains where this could actually happen (not common though). I want to say it was with a few Chrysler models but don't quote me on that. That being said, it's not an issue for you or any other vehicle these days.

All I have to say is WOW!!!

Thanks for all the fast replies!
I am removing the CV axles to replace them. They are the originals with 253k Miles on them. I am going to install NAPA New axles but keep the old ones because they are not totally shot. They just make that clanking sound when turning.

It is also helpful to get everything out of the way.

P.S. I have been lurking on yotatech, here, and various other Toyota Sites since 2006 when I bought my 1996 4Runner SR5. I figured it was time I start contributing because I am actually building it up now.

Thanks again all of you!

Don't you ever let this "mechanic" work on your 4Runner for f**k's sake!

Don't worry I do all my own work for the most part.

The friend in question is a nice person and he used to work at a Restoration shop and I have seen him do some great work. Now I am thinking he may not be the brains behind the operation so to speak.

All right let's not be too hard on the mechanic.
He might have his heart in the right place and maybe he is being cautious for his friend.

Atleast he didn't tell him to polish the crank shaft bearing with 600 grit sand paper...
