Can I tow my car with the runner?

I have a 2004 V8 4x4 4-runner SE

I'm wondering if I can tow my 3500lb Supra with it. The Supra and trailer will weigh about 4500lbs. I plan on towing it from Houston TX to Orlando FL.

A friend that works at the toyota dealer said no, that the car and trailer weigh more than the 4-runner. But, isn't the 4-runner rated for 7000lbs?

Are there brakes on the Trailer?

I have a 05 Limited V8 and I tow a boat and trailer that is around 5300 LBS with no problems at all. The trailer has Surge Brakes though. If I had no trailer brakes, it might be a stretch.

No problem

The 4runner can tow it no problem, but your trailer should definitely have it's own brakes. Otherwise a load that heavy will control YOU when braking. I would use trailer brakes when towing a load over 3500 pounds.

I don't know if the U-Haul auto carrier has brakes. Pretty sure it doesn't. Are there rentals that have brakes?

UHaul trailers usually have surge brakes.

Not sure in those states but in Ohio, it's the law that any trailer with a groos over 2,000# had to have brakes, either electric or surge. I would think a U-haul trailer that is capable of carrying that weight would have the brakes to comply with state laws.

btw - I would make sure the vehicle you are towing does not need extra insurance if you are towing as opposed to driving it...
