Hey guys - I promise, I just spent an hour searching for the answer to this and came up with more questions than anything. I've got a 2004 4Runner V6 4WD with the A340 4 speed. I will be towing a travel trailer and need to monitor my ATF fluid temperature. How best can I do this? I've read about the scangauge, torque app, etc but can't find anything definitive that I can rely on. I don't mind spending the money, but just want to be confident I'm putting it towards something that will give reliable ATF temp readings. Thanks so much.

I use an UltraGuage for that on my 03.

Cool thank you. Does the V8 use the same transmission as the V6? Also, which Ultragauge do you have? The EM Plus or the MX? According to the website, the EM Plus does not support transmission temps but I'm not sure if that's relevant considering this is done using a custom code.

V6 uses the A340F 4 speed transmission.
V8 uses the A750F 5 speed transmission.
The codes should be the same however. I used codes from a Tacoma to get it working.

I think all the 4th Gens use the 5 speed transmission
Edit: My mistake, pre-2005 there was a difference

So yes, I failed to mention that later model V6 did come with the A750F. However, the 2004 V6 would not have received that transmission and would still have the A340 4 speed variant.
Correct, pre-2005 would have been the A340 4 speed for the V6. All V8s came with the A750 5 speed.

I've got an '03 V8 LTD as well and have the UG plus. On mine it caused the traction control lights to come on and stay on. I don't use it as it doesn't provide much data IMO that I can't live without. Anyone wants it, $60 shipped to continental US. Has a mount with it. PM me.

That's strange. I had no such issues with the MX on mine. Sorry it didn't work out for your case.
