Can I use the normal 6 spoke 16" wheels as my spare?

97 SR5 16" wheels

Quick question guys, my steel spare is rusted beyond belief. The tire is also dry rotted and old as hell. My neighbor was selling a really nice, almost new 265/75/R16 (same size im running right now) Goodyear something for 30 bucks so I snagged it.

The junk yard by me has a bunch of wheels identical to mine (16" stock aluminum 4r wheels) and I think they sell for cheap (30 bucks a piece?).

Can I use that rim for a spare? As in, will it mount like normal under neath where the spare goes? I don't see why it wouldn't so this may be a dumb question but I figured I'd ask.

If it will, I will get a new rim and have them mount this new spare tire that I bought today.

I have a fifth six-spoke 16" and do a five wheel rotation. Fits just fine.

Yes you can use any wheel under there, the bigger worry is will the larger than stock tire fit. I've had two hitches. One that wouldn't fit a 265/75/16 and one that fit a 255/75/17 which is taller than the tire you want. All depends on the hitch.

If you are running 265 75 16, why not remove one and try it in the spare location.
I too need to get 6 spoke wheel with 265 75 16 as a spare.

Hmm no I don't think so, your left tires will wear differently than your spare and right tires. I would still do a cross pattern from front-to-back, or back-to-front, but modify it to include the fifth tire.

Well I called the junkyard and they claim they don't have any wheels for my 4runner. I think I'll stop by and see for my self. I guess even a basic steel spare would be fine too.

Aren't the 16" tacoma wheels the same? And I just need to make sure I find a 16x7, 5.5 bolt pattern 6 lug wheel correct? They obviously need to be the mag style lugs too.

Well it's a good thing I stopped by. They had several wheels available. Picked up the best looking one for 30 bucks. Paid another 12 at a different shop to have them mount and balance it.

Out with the old...

In with the new....

Fits perfect underneath btw...
