Can rear slider handle this?

If my new limited was here I could have tested out the cargo slider with this load of about 500lbs. The Tahoe has a bit of rear sag. It is AirPrint how much such a small amt of rock weights.

I'm not totally sure what you're asking but...the sliding deck is rated to handle 440 lbs. It's marked on the tray itself and in the owners manual here (pg. 460). When I have that much weight back there the rear definitely starts to squat - but with the factory rake it doesn't look too bad.

OA

I had 480 lbs. of cinder blocks in mine (w/ 3rd row) last night. Squat wasn't terrible. Didn't even have a lot of extra bounce over the rough roads.. Probably thanks to X-reas suspension. Keep it under 500 lbs and you should be ok.

The slider itself will handle a lot more than that, as long as you don't slide it out with that weight on it. Not sure how much weight your Runner will take back there.

You had a post on here yesterday about the difference in 4wd systems between your new limited and your outgoing Tahoe. I am not being an a$$ here so please don't take it this way, but you seemed to have loved your old Tahoe why didn't you just get a new one. Just curious if it was time for a change of scenery or something else that drew you to the $runner?

A Tahoe is based on a 1/2 ton truck platform, so it probably can handle more weight. Personally, I wouldn't want 500 lbs of rocks in my vehicle. In a crash, that cargo would be deadly! You should rent a small utility trailer or one of those Home Depot pickup trucks. If you rent a trailer, the 4Runner will have no problem towing way over 500 lbs of rocks.

Not sure about sliders but on few occasions I took 260 kg (over 500 lbs) of construction waste to local recycling center without any issues. I would spread load as evenly as possible though to reduce possible sag.

I was partly being silly, im not sure im ready to dump a load of rocks on a brand new 4ru ner, that is one nice thing Bout a old vehicle, it just doesnt matter. Im sure the runner could handle the load just fine though it was heavier than i realized.

Regarding the question about a new tahoe, the decision mostly had to do with two great vehicles, i really liked both but the tahoe was 56k otd, about 13k more than my limited. It was time to draw the line, i just. Cant pay that much for a vehicle.

I have a line too. I love the Land Cruiser but I can't get past spending $80K for a vehicle no matter how nice. I think you will really like the 4runner.

You'd miss us, admit it. When are you buying your 7th 5th gen?

:biggrin2:

Yea the Tahoes have just gotten too darn expensive. They are really nice and the powertrain is best in class, but just not worth the price tag they are demanding at the moment. They are also too bulky for any type of real off-roading. Not even in the same class as a 4 runner from that perspective.

Great for a street SUV with occasional dirt road or snow... use.

I've loaded 30 96lb sacks of Portland cement in my 3rd gen. Almost doubled the vehicle weight. Was a bit much but it got me where I needed to go. With the airbags maxed out it was still a couple inches low and super heavy feeling. Especially braking. I used to regularly carry a full pallet if 36 bags in the GM 2500 obviously the GM is a lot better but I'm always amazed at how much the little Toyotas will do. I'd love a 5.3 in my 4runner - if Toyota built it. No plastic intake manifold for me. Ive had my fill of cylinder bank lean code on my 01. Why must GM always put an acheelies heel on otherwise great stuff?

I've been digging around this site and have been amazed at sme of the places folks on this board go and how they use their 4runners. I'm an outdoorsman, in fact, sitting in a blind as we speak, so I use my tAhoe and soon, 4Runner, for hunting and fishing related activities in Florida. The tAhoe was good bc it carried tons of gear. I could also throw my mountain bike in the rear despite being an extra large frame. I will Ned to be more thoughtful in my packing going forward especially since I couldn't get a runner wo the cargo carrier in Florida, w the limited.

I had 1800lbs of hardwood flooring in the back of mine. That's with the upgraded suspension though. Short distance, about 10 miles and some sag.
