Can someone explain how 2014/2015 DRL-HiBeam works?

IIRC for 2014/2015 models, the DRL & Hi-Beam is the same 9005 bulb. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Now, can someone please explain briefly how it works? Is it lowered voltage or is it lowered current they drive to the bulb? 9005 is not an Hi/Lo bulb, right? Also, I don't think they just turn on High Beam as DRL.

It is the same bulb. 9005. It's lowered voltage in DRL mode, then high when you pull the stalk for the high beam.

Special ones can run off both the 6V DRL and 12V high beam current correctly, but they are expensive and are relatively inefficient to use as high beams due to the lack of lumens. I'd recommend keeping a halogen bulb in there until someone comes up with a brighter LED solution.

I am going to look into this. Probably have to study in details into the wiring diagram to even figure out if this is even possible.

I would want to install an alternate DRL, maybe a pair of:

I would want to wire it so that the Rigid H/L is at LOW as DRL during the day and is OFF during the night, with an on-demand HIGH turn on switch. And I would want to disable the 9005 LOW voltage DRL.

Let me tinker, let me tinker more....

Interested to see how it turns out for ya! I was disappointed when I realized the DRL's and HB's shared the same bulb on the 2014-up's. Always loved the amber DRL's of the 10's-13's and had originally hoped to just swap out the bulbs but after I got a closer look at the new headlight assembly, realized that wasn't gonna happen.

Love amber "chicken lights", it is a 4Runner though and not a Peterbilt, but still would love to add a set of amber LED's up front for use as DRL's.

I guess, if you can do without your "fog light" you can mod that to AMBER and make it your DRL.

I was thinking about putting a 9005 HID bulb as the HIGH BEAM, since if I am using the HIGH BEAM, there should be any incoming traffic anyways....

Hadn't thought about that actually. I know I've read on here someone did a write up on being able run their fogs at will so might look in that to satisfy my amber running craving.

Here is how I set up the lighting in my 2014 Unlimited. I completely removed the DRL and added a second projector. I wired the DRL switch up to the switchback "swoosh" so that I can have a complete amber or white set up

Jeff, I have no need for high beams, so I just replaced the 9005 bulb with these, and it gives off a nice yellow/light orange light.

question regarding the headlight

so obviously this is custom made, but is it all manufactured at once... as in you can buy from a dealership the headlights or is it modified by one of those " LED stripe" kind of things??

If anyone knows if you can get the whole headlight already assembled from a dealership I´ll appreciate if you guys let me know so that I can buy it.
