Can the A750F Transmission Be Tuned?

I know almost next to nothing about the transmission in the 4Runner beyond some general information I've read here and a few other places. I do know based on my recent experience towing that this transmission will only lock up the torque converter in 4th and 5th gears under specific conditions and that transmission temps rise whenever the torque converter is unlocked (this is common knowledge but since I've only dealt with tuning cars with manual transmissions it's relatively new to me).

In the interest of reducing the heat stress on my transmission I'm trying to figure out if anyone out there has any experience with reprogramming and or tuning these transmissions to run cooler and longer. Generally speaking most automatic transmissions seem to be tuned to shift softly and to lock up gradually to maximize comfort according to what the maker thinks their customers want. I'd gladly give up some comfort in the interest of durability.

I've seen both mechanical and software changes for other transmissions as well as performance rebuilds. At this point I'd only be considering software changes and possibly some valve tuning or other relatively inexpensive modifications, especially if it will increase the life expectancy of my transmission.

An aux transmission cooler is already on its way and will be installed shortly.

Any advice?

I'm hoping the addition of an external cooler on my V6 will drop temps to a safer level when I'm towing and this will be a non-issue but I'm checking in to available options if the cooler isn't enough.
