Can They Leave Toyota Alone?

Just saw this on the news: Toyota 4Runner SUVs and T100 trucks in safety probe - latimes.com

Now the 4Runner and T-100 are the center of attention. Apparently, Toyota is accused of delaying the recall on faulty steering rods in the US. I wasn't even aware of this issue. What do you guys make of this?

I think the media scrutiny is a good thing as long as it's based on some amount of fact and not just Toyota-bashing. It's been discussed around here before - Toyota's quality standards have dropped over the last several years. If Toyota is making mistakes and/or cutting corners, let's air that out. And if some allegations are false, then the truth will come out.

Once everything is in the open and resolved, I'm confident this experience will get Toyota back on the right track and bring back the superior quality we've all come to expect from the name Toyota.

:iagree: Toyota has earned this bashing and the added scrutiny. I'm not so sure it will bring back the old Toyota quality, but they deserve what they are getting.

I wonder if this steering issue was related to the infamous steering wheel lock up in the 2nd gen. . .

Sorry they are jealous that most of the cars/suv in Los Angeles are all TOYOTA/LEXUS. They are trying to kill TOYOTA.:gun4::gun4::gun4::banana::banana::banana:

Toyota is greatly changing how they do quality control now. Techs at the dealer now send problem reports straight to engineers instead of corporate. This reduces the delay so now the engineers can starty working on a repair in less than 48 hours.

seriously...they are bringing up a recall campaign that was done over 3 years ago. i had it done on my 1991 pickup and it was great. they replaced both steering rods, the inner and outer TRE's on both sides and did a complete alignment for free. good deal IMO

I had a steering part replaced under a T100 recall not long ago.
My truck is a '95, and I am the 3rd owner.
I just had the recall done late last year. They replaced the part and did an allignment.
Not bad for a 15 year old truck

I too had the steering rod recall done on my 2nd gen Runner and I believe this most current issue is that Toyota delayed the recall here in the US after being aware of it in Japan a full year before that.

Honda to me seems like the model that all companies should strive to imitate. If there is even a hint of something being wrong, they take care of the current owner no matter how old the vehicle.

They led the way in safety with seat belt inspections a few years back and I believe they will still replace any of their vehicles' s.belts at no charge, but I could be wrong, having not owned a Honda for 5 years or so now.

x2, if you are ****ed up, you need to be called out. Nothing personal, just get up, dust off and fix yourself. Hopefully Toyota learns from these errors.

Toyota has been weasling out of responsilibity for problems for years.
The POS L52 trans in 83, the frame rust problems of the entire 80's.
It's karma.

Before, Toyota would get easily 10-15% of the news cast time and everyday was about Toyota.
