Can this be done?

What I want to do is really simple as long as I can get what I need. My PIAA lights have arrived, and after going over the wiring I see no reason why I cannot use the existing wiring. But what I want to do is the following:

On the lights themselves where the two wires come out going into a clip. The wiring harness/kit has two connectors that plug into that clip. What I hope to do is find a place (Radio Shack maybe) that will sell the same kind of clip so I can take the existing wiring, cut strip and put the clip on the end of the existing wiring. When done just plug the two connectors together and I am done.

Worst case scenario I will have to cut the clips off the lights, but I would like to make use of them.

I wouldn't recommend that at all.

The power rating is different and thus the PIAA's running on the stock wiring loom will look dim.

I would recommend you wire the PIAA the right way (sometimes a pain but definitely worth while).

What you can do is if you want to use your existing foglight switch (on the turn signal/headlight knob) you can do this:

I believe the PIAA's came w/ it's own wiring harness right. Use their wiring to wire up the lights but instead of mounting the switch, use the hot leads from the stock wiring to get the trigger from.

Hope that makes sense. Just think of it as the stock line is the switch lead where it's sending the signal to the relay to tell the relay to power the piaa's!

Just to make sure we are not misunderstanding each other: the wiring I am discussing is not the one that comes with the "stock foglights." I am talking about using the existing wiring that I installed for the $30 lights I wired. With that said, do you think there is any reason not to use that?

$30 lights being the replacement for the Lightforce I could not get to fit: hence the safari bar lights.

If you're using existing aftermarket foglight wiring that you had previously then it might work.

I'd check to make sure that the amp rating is the same so the current is the same for the piaa's

I'm assuming that you already have a switch on your dash somewhere from the old fogs and just want to use that switch/relay/wiring right?

If the spec's are the same, I see why it wouldn't work.

Can you tell me how to check the amp rating?

I do have a volt meter but I do not know how to use it.

it should say somewhere on the relay.

PIAA has their own relay which should state it on there. If not check the box.

You can also check your existing wiring loom for the amp rating.

You just want to make sure there's enough juice to power the new piaa's!

If it's too much trouble, I'd say just use the PIAA wiring as they're pretty self -explanatory

relays are the way to go.
i wired about 45 lights on a GL1500 Gold Wing
and you may laugh but i used a 1979 lincoln
town car horn relay. it worked great and i sold
it about 2002 and it's still working.

For several reasons the existing wiring didn't work. So after 30minutes of yanking the existing wiring I installed it in about 2 or 3 hrs with the PIAA wiring. I did buy those rods that help you run wires but I can't believe they cost $30.
