Can't decide on rack...

So the end of 2012 I attempted to order a BajaRack from a particular vendor. I got a call from the vendor yesterday that it will be 60 days for the BajaRack. They offered me the ARB as an option that can ship quicker. I called BajaRack and they indicated they are available to ship which leads me to believe this vendor may owe BajaRack $ and can't order until they pay what they owe..

So I am wondering if I should just get a refund and order the BajaRack from someone else or should I get the ARB? What are the cons of the ARB vs BajaRack? Any suggestions?

they both seem to be the same strength or hold up to the same durability it just comes down to what do you want to see up there on your truck. The ARB seems to be a little lower profile height wise.

If your satisfied with the looks of the ARB go with it, if you cant wait the lead time for you bajarack and don't want and ARB then I would certainly get a refund and go with a different vendor.

A few people have complained about the powder coat on BajaRacks not holding up.

I haven't seen that problem with ARBs, but I also haven't seen very many ARB racks around the 4runner forums whereas I've seen a ton of BajaRacks.

Not sure who the vendor is, but like Austin said if you don't wanna wait then I'd call BajaRack and order.

The BajaRack looks like a nice product for the price. I would cancel the order and find a vendor who can fulfill the order in a timely manner.

Sounds to me like you might be right on them owing Bajarack money. It's an off the shelf item which would be dropped shipped to you directly from Bajarack so it shouldn't take that long. My first rack was a Bajarack directly from them. It took 3 business days after I hung up the phone for it to arrive at my house.

If you still can't decide on which rack to get, check this thread out. Show us your rack!. You can't go wrong with Gobi or having a custom made one like Perkins Performance. CBI is also working on a 4th Gen roof rack. You might want to give Nathan a call to see how that's coming along. Whitson Metalworks is also working on a 4th gen rack. I need a 4th gen owner in NW Florida for rack fit-up

I put in the request yesterday for a refund from the vendor I used, he indicated 10-14 days.. i don't find it acceptable but we shall see what happens. Once I get the refund i will just call BajaRack and order direct. Baja is $655 + appox $125 shipping. ARB is $625 + $190 for fit kit + $180 for drop shipping. Not sure why the shipping amount is different. Gobi is $1299 + free shipping

gobbi ships for free!?!? definitely going with them now when I "rack up"

Yep, their prices are shipped and freight on something that large isn't cheap. I contacted Perkins before I bought mine and he had much better prices but the free shipping made Gobi just a little cheaper.

I'm sure the BajaRack is still a fair amount cheaper overall, but because of shipping I don't think the Gobi is 'nearly twice as much' as it seems when you see the two list prices.

edit- doesn't the $1299 gobi also include the ladder or another accessory? I thought it was 1200 shipped. I paid $1400 and got the rack, ladder, sunroof extension, and hi lift mount (and those are $100-200 ea/ without the rack).

Re-ordered the BajaRack today from another vendor ($750 shipped)

I am still waiting for the original vendor to complete the refund. They 'claim' to have issued the refund last week. But nothing has shown up, nor has the bank heard from them. I am going to give them a few more days then I will post vendor feedback about them. I don't want others to deal with this BS.

For those of you who have ordered Gobi racks, did you order directly from Gobi? Or from a dealer? If dealer, who?

I ordered from Gobi but you can also go through RiDE, or TRDParts4U I think.. I think anyone you order through is going to go through Gobi though.

If you go directly through Gobi they offer free shipping. Not sure if others do.

edit - You can also get stuff customized through Gobi, I got mine without the accessory crossbars so I have a bigger floor and I just mount accessories to to the floor & tubing under it.

When I called around going direct thru gobi was the best deal.

It was still more $$ than I wanted to spend, so I ended up with the Baja.

Thanks guys. Am also looking at Perkins Perf rack (looks similar to Gobi), and been talking with Nathan at CBI about their future roof rack for the 4th gen. Decisions, decisions.

Perkins dude! I'm getting him to make me a custom one that is 49" wide inside with no rear rail and a full mesh floor so that I can carry lumber up there and stand on it.
