Can't get crank shaft to TDC

Crank Timing pully stuck

I spent most of today trying to remove broken crank shaft timing pulley. I bathed it in PB Blaster and attached Craftsman steering wheel/harmonic balancer puller using M6 1.0 bolts I bought. I cranked it as far as I could until I thought the heads might pop off the M6 bolts. It is 7:48 PM here in the East - I'm leaving it overnight. I'm done for today.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. I see it called Mitsubishi all over the internet so much that I thought I got shafted when I bought my kit, thinking it was a cheap knockoff with a similar name.. lol


You really can't use any sort of prying force against those teeth on the crank sprocket. Those things are super brittle, as you discovered, and can break a tooth by being dropped. I had to replace mine for that very reason, but it wasn't rusted to the crank either, and slid off by hand...

Thanks everyone for all the assistance - much appreciated. Just after midnight I started it up and took a test drive.

Noticeable improvement esp. when it is idling.

Camshaft at TDC

Have you removed the old belt yet?

Remove the old belt.
Set the crankshaft to notch to the zero.
Then turn each camshaft to line up.
You can move the crankshaft and camshafts separately.
Then put new belt on with the indicators on the belt in the correct spots.

I just replaced my Cam Shaft and CrankShaft seals and am putting the car back together (did the TB a year ago and DID NOT replace the cam shaft and crankshaft seals then, stupid me).

When I tightened up the bolts on the cam shaft gears, they moved from 12:00 to 2:30. I moved them back to the marks, but am concerned that the valves are now misaligned. Can I independently move the cams clockwise one revolution to make sure that are back to TDC (Note - crankshaft still at TDC independently .

Same thing happened to me. Short answer - yes.

Rotate clockwise until the timing mark is where you need it to be. So less than 1 full revolution.
