Can't get TE 4x4 with Nav and KDSS in AZ

So, I'm looking for a TE with Nav and KDSS, and I've been told by two different dealers here in PHX that this region cannot get the Navigation on the 4x4 TE. What? :sobbing:

Has anyone heard anything different? I would much prefer the TE to the Limited for various reasons, but I can't believe this!

Does CA have this same restriction? I suppose I could find one out there and bring it back and register it in AZ, right?

When I was looking (CA). Didn't see any TE with Nav. I didn't want oem nav so worked out well for me.
 
A buddy of mine is looking for a TE w/ Nav too... We went to a few dealers in the Denver metro area and every TE we saw did not have navigation. Kinda weird.

Welcome to the club. Certain regions do not receive Trails with Nav in regular dealer allocations. I special ordered mine end of April and it is due any day. I was not in a rush so it worked fine for me. The irony is I have seen numerous other Trail buyers trying to find KDSS and no Nav, and those are a plenty here.
 
It's not that they can't get them via allocation, it's that they didn't get them. They can place a preference request for any combination of options available in the ordering guide. Likewise, they can make allocation requests. I got mine by preference request and a lot of email searching for a salesman that would do the work.

There are no regional restrictions or variations coming from Toyota, however the regional managers here might be enforcing restrictions of their own. Local salesmen want to sell what is on the lot or within local inventory, not what may or may not come on a boat. They don't have to wait for their money that way.

Tell your salesman you want to place a preference request for a 4Runner in your desired color with the following options: FE CP KD ND TE CF, which is 2-year Free Maintenance, Convenience Package, KDSS, Navigation, Trail Edition, and Carpet Mats respectively. Then haggle over price and place a deposit. Good Luck.
 
I found one in Henderson NV, but the dealer wanted $700 process fee since I'm based out of So Cal. Plenty in Texas thru my search. The reasoning I was told is it put it too close to the bling bling package (Limited) price point.

We have a 09 Rav 4wd Limited as well and the Toyota sat nav sucks sweaty donkey dong . I wanted it in my TE just for the back up cam on the nav display.

Thanks for clarifying Mike. I just posted what they told me. I tried several different dealers and they all said it would be a special order. Guess I'll have a rare Trail for Colorado. Was nice to not have to pay for the carpeted mats since I left them out of my order.

That's interesting... I remember when dealers (on the front range) were first getting Trail's - most of them had NAV - interesting how that's flip flopped.

Good luck. Be sure to check out Liberty Toyota in the Springs. I just checked their stock - no TE, but I hear their sales staff is good.

I think when they were first shipping, all Trails did pair KDSS with Nav. My brochure was picked up in April and it says the same. Obviously though the packages were split at some point.

I'm not a big Nav/tech kinda guy, but it will suffice just fine for me. Looks great, and saves me from putting a hammer through the annoying stock orange display. I know the after market units are probably better, but no way I could do a head unit without adding all new speakers, amps, cables, and a pair of Soundstream 10s. Those days are behind me.
 
I guess I'll try the special order route. I'm thinking it will be difficult to find a salesman willing to do this around here....I'll keep you all posted.

As you and somebody mentioned ,you might check out of state/region(like Texas) if you don't want to wait and special order one.It's been noted CA region doesnt get them either. There have been a few on the forum that have bought out of state with no problems. The only real down side to getting one out of state is local dealer service depts. can treat you like a red headed stepchild because you did'nt buy from them.My last BMW,bought in Atlanta, was like that. I bought my last two 4runners from the same dealer and have somewhat of a rapport with them knowing alot of managers/tech on a first name basis and they take care of me.

The Gulf States Region that Texas is in only gets TE's with Nav/KDSS.When I was ordering my 4Runner last fall I actually had a salesman tell me, with a straight face, that TE's equipped with KDSS had to have the Nav so the GPS could read the terrain!:lol:

i don't mind the Nav performance so much as the c0cktease iPod hookup: an otherwise ideal digital interface that's completely hamstrung by brain-dead software. navigating artist/song/album lists is so painful it's hard to believe the developers ever used it themselves before giving it the green light. :lightsaber:

Yea, but Amarillo is 700 miles away...I wonder if NM can get them?

I almost bought one from a Colorado dealer who explained the whole process to me in a matter of fact way. If paying the taxes back home wouldn't have been such a PITA, she would have gotten the sale.

The reason I went as far as Colorado was because local dealers were telling me "oh, it doesn't come in that color" or "it doesn't come with Navigation" because they wanted to sell what they had in inventory. When I took in my laptop and pointed to a Hawaii SBP TE with KDSS and Nav, they gave me the "it's a regional package, we can't get it".

After getting the real facts, and the correct terminology, option codes, and pricing, suddenly what was not possible turned into a cake walk. Toyota salesmen make it incredibly hard to buy a Toyota.

I'd suggest emailing the internet sales people, and just spam the local dealers. Try "preference request" instead of "special order", and tell them you are looking at going out of state if they can't help you. You'd be surprised how quickly people come around.

Well, I fired off an email to her, we'll see if she responds. I need invoice pricing or I might as well get the Limited since they are so close.

Also, what is the best way to search out of state for specifically optioned vehicles? When I look at Autotrader, all you get is general info and typically it's not even close to current dealer stock....

Pick a zip code for a large citiy, then use it to search.

I paid $38,500 for TE with KDSS/Nav before t/t/l. You don't need to pay more as a few others have paid less since my deal in February.
