Car alarms???

I bought my 96 4Runner limited from some guy, but he never mentioned anything about a car alarm. Now i noticed the radio says car alarm but how do i activate it, if i do in fact have one? Do i need key-less entry, because all he gave me was a simple plain old key. If i dont have one, how hard is it to install an after market one like a viper or pyle?

The radio is saying alarm because the vehicle must have lost power at some point. Did you remove the battery, or did it go dead? It does not indicate that your vehicle has an alarm, it is telling you the radio lost power and needs to have the recovery code set. You can call the dealership with your VIN and they can tell you if you have a factory keyless or alarm.

No, the radio itself has written on the tape deck, car alarm, idk what it really says, but its saying that my car is installed with a car alarm. Aren't all limited installed with car alarms?
