car and driver?

Just read the Car and Driver SUV article. They dumped on the 4Runner because of the hood scoop, head room and a/c controls, rated it second to last. I guess, looking at the other SUV's, that reliablity, fit and finish and drive line are not worth considering when looking at a new SUV.

I don't have a hood scoop, the head room is fine with me and I really like the a/c controls. I was surprised that they did not consider value or quality in their ratings. I guess that's the difference between the media and real life. They don't have to consider taking the vehicle home for a few years (or more). The 4Runner is having a tough time, not only with CR, but now Car and Driver. I wish they would advertise more so they would get better ratings. A good review can't cost that much, can it?

Car & Driver is POS magazine because it only promotes who ever pays them most in sponsoring and adds. The only rag I trust is Consumer Reports. Car & Driver is one hell of a Brown Nose...

Yeah thats a good question, where did it go?

and isn't C/R just as bad as C/D? Hell they gave the V6 a black mark initially...

Maybe C/R and C/D sent Gator Greg a cease and desist order on the thread and he had to pull it! Maybe C/R and C/D have advertising clout on here and Gator Greg buckled under the pressure of their facist corporate lawyers?!!!! Oh my gawd, let the conspiracy theories start.

seriosly, where did it go?

Yeah I read that too and was pretty disgusted. C&D likes anything that's spelled J-E-E-P. I thought I read somewhere that the Jeep Grand Cherokee only has like 6.8" of ground clearance? Not sure how accurate that is but if it is it might as well be a car. Granted the HEMI is a powerful engine but I don't think an SUV should be as fast as a performance sports car. As far as the hood scoop goes, it's NEVER hurt my field of view and I've been in some pretty hairy situations already. That review really changed how I look at C&D. Maybe they should stick with cars ...

The previous thread about this controversial C&D comparo was made by Toyotadude77, who recently was banned from this forum due to multiple name registrations and trolling. Once he is banned, all of his thread got deleted. And since he was the original poster of that thread, the WHOLE thread got deleted too.

So, feel free to start the whole discussion...again.:p

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: For example, if LARRY deletes his post, this whole thread would be deleted, even if 10000 posts were made to this thread.

I'm guessing that whoever finances this forum did not appreciate our discussions. But I didn't feel like we were really bashing the jeep, rather we were just defending our favorite suv, the 4runner. I just feel bad for perspective car buyers who are trying to find information on these forums. Now all they have to work with is biased information based on unfair comparisons.

raray....i guess you don't know the whole story about toyotadude77 and why he was banned. we're not going to get into that.

you are wrong by thinking that the mods do not appreciate our discussions just by banning a member and deleting a thread. thai already explained clearly what happens when you ban someone who is causing trouble on this forum, his threads get deleted too. would it make sense for the person who created this forum to not appreciate the discussions as long as they're relevant and follow the guidelines in this forum? why would someone waste their time and funds to open a forum and then delete threads that are important?

Huh?? You must have typed your response before seeing my post. Please READ MY POST AGAIN ABOVE. Feel free to bash Jeeps!:D

Note: this forum is being financed solely by Gatorgreg...out of his pockets. The only income he gets from this forum is selling the stickers (at cost!) and the little advertisements that you see on the forum page. I wish that Jeep or Toyota finance us!!! I would be somewhere in the Carribean by now!:D

Toyotadude77 was not only a troll, but he was extremely rude and insulting to everyone! I would love a troll, but not one that insults every member with profanity. I gave him a lot of leeway, including plenty of warnings, before finally axing him. :(

We should have a Gator Greg appreciation day....how about his b-day? :D

if you guys would put more advertising banners on this site, i'll make sure to include it in my daily routing to visit the sites each day several times, just to increase thier traffic. and what's with that Japanese bone marrow advertisement banner on top of the page? since when do we donate bone marrows here???

Here's a suggestion for the future:

If a member is banned, his or her posts should not be deleted. Of course any of the offensive posts can be edited, but to ban all of the posts just doesn't make sense.

I've participated in several forums similar to this one, and entire threads are not lost just because the originator of the thread had been banned.

I was a little disappointed with the Car and Driver comparison.

The hood scoop blocking visibility is a non-issue... but they were saying that it can block the view during OFFROAD manuevers, such as cresting a hill and trying to see back down the other side. I guess this is possible, but the fact of the matter is that the hood scoop doesn't really rise very high off the plane of the hood.

Car and Driver had a valid point on the seats being so damn low to the floor. This bothered me when I test drove the 4Runner. I ended up fabricating some custom brackers that raise the front legs of the seats about 2 inches higher. Now it's MUCH more comfortable for me.

I believe that Car and Driver is unbiased.... and I seriously doubt that advertising dollars have any effect on their road test outcomes. If it did, they would quickly lose their integrity and the future of their magazine would be at risk. As we all know, that's just not the case.... they are the #1 automotive magazine in the country....perhaps even the world?

I have to disagree a little on Car and Driver being biased. Granted, they're not biased on everything but it seems to me everytime they compare anything to a JEEP product the JEEP comes out on top. Don't get me wrong, I really like Wranglers and I would own one if I didn't want/need something bigger. C&D are always raving about how great JEEP is and how much better it is then other SUV's. I'm not sure what bug crawled up they're butt's with this review but to throw the 4Runner all the way down to #5 just because of the 3/4" hood scoop and the A/C controls?? That's rediculous. Personally I feel like I have the BEST SUV if those were the worst things about it. Another thing (I know, I'm on a tangent :D), the JEEP they tested was a FULLY LOADED (they said over $41,000) Limited Cherokee with a HEMI. The 4Runner was a Sport Edition that didn't even have all the available options. JEEP's having a problem selling their HEMI JEEP because it's so much money for what you get, and nobody wants a jacked up racecar. So how better to boost sales then to get a top rated magazine to bash the other BEST midsized SUV's and throw the JEEP out on top . Ok, I guess I'm done ranting now :p.

I guess the Jeep won because of the hemi. That's typical of these magazines. Some test drives finish with a statement like, '...lousy brakes, the a/c is worthless, the steering is over boosted but we chose the Smuckmobile because of that wonderful V8 power with the turbo and NOS'. But if you are going to drive over 100k miles do you want a hemi or a 2UZ-FE. I know my answer.

ROTFLMAO!

When I 1st sat in 4Runners I did notice the head room was a bit low? I am just over 6" and did not like it at all it felt too close. So I check out one with a sun roof and it was much better. It only give about an extra inch or so but that makes a huge diff. Still can't sport my cowboy hat in the rig but that because it hit the head rest not the roof! I guess I could remove the head rest.

Unfortunately, many of Toyotadude77's posts were offensive. Each one of us (admins & mods) have day jobs and families. Therefore, we do not have the luxury of time to go through each and every post of his to edit out the content.

Until that time comes when we have 24/7 coverage, the admins/mods are doing our best to cover the forum and read most posts, especially the recent ones by Hitman.;):

The Hemi Jeep is no jacked-up race car. The numbers (mid 15s in the quarter) I'm seeing are pretty sorry for the HP advantage it has. I'd like to see all the 2005 V8s line up and be heard. I think allot of people would be surprised at the differences.

As far C&D being biased, it doesn't get any worse. Most comparisons say that the only differences from the GC redesign are the added power. This means, they will still have reliability problems. C&D is definitely THROWING THE 4RUNNER UNDER THE BUS to try and make the CG look better. All you have to do is look at ALL the other comparisons and it's clear what C&D's intent is. The reasons for their decision is proof, hood scoop in the way, dash controls are what? If I were the owner of that mag. I'd be embarrassed. If you're going to throw the competition under the bus, at lease come up with something that is a problem. I'm surprised they didn't say the reliability is questionable. I have no problem with an opinion but to make silly shit up and rate a GREAT vehicle so low is downright unacceptable. My way of protesting is to NEVER pick-up another C&D again. What purpose would I have to read anything they have to say, when I know that they are not rating vehicle based on its qualities.

So Car & Driver, if you

Except for the part about stickers being sold at cost, :iagree:
