Car Audio Issue

Hello,

I'm extremely excited about my new to me 2005 4Runner & I'm looking at putting a new sound system in. As I'm looking for items I'm being prompted on some websites asking if I have the JBL audio system or not. I don't believe that I do, but is there a way for me to find out? I've read on the forums here that the JBL system has some expensive / proprietary components & wondering if that would mean I need to use slim lined gear? Thanks for any & all help!!

I pretty sure that they were treated all the same through the years. If like my 2003, the JBL system is called Synthesis...and there would be a badge on the door speakers that say "Synthesis".

You would also have rear surround grills/speakers in the very back at the top of the D-pillars in lieu of mirrors. You'd also have a center channel speaker in the center of the dash. The opening/grill may be there in all versions, but it would have the speaker there if you had the JBL. Also...you'd have the 8" sub in a plastic enclosure tucked into the rear passenger quarter panel. You'd see the round shape of perforations in the rear quarter panel plastic cladding which is where the sub is located.

Seeing that you are asking you probably don't since as the previous members said its right on the stereo and tends to stick out. Definitely double check it though just to make sure in case you overlooked it.
