Car audio question

Just a question for anyone with experience hooking up subs. I have an alpine mrp-f300 amp and I want to throw a 6.5" sub in the back. The amp is a 4 channel with 50W RMS. I currently have it running 4 speakers (2 in the dash and 2 in the back). Can I still run the two in the dash if I disconnect them from the amp and just hook them up to the head unit? Or do I have to have them running through the amp for them to work. In my head, I want to disconnect the speakers in the dash from the amp and run them through the head unit, then run the speakers in the back and the sub through the amp. Would this work? Or am I just being an idiot that wants bass too bad.

If you are going to have speakers on an amp, put all of them on an amp. Otherwise you will have two speakers getting more power than others and it will sound like doodoo! What you can do is run a couple crossovers between the door and dash speakers. Run a crossover on one channel, then run a door and dash speaker to that crossover. Do the same on another channel for the door and dash speakers on the other side. Then you can bridge the other two channels and get 100w for the sub.

Agreed. This is the best route of powering your sub and front. Run the rear off the radio and you should be fine. The rear really does not matter. They are consider fillers. The real audio is the fronts. These are the speakers that matter the most. If you don't mind me asking what speakers are you running for your car?

I just bought Rockford Fosgate R14X2's for the dash. Should be in tomorrow. The ones that are in the dash right now are (I'm fairly certain) stock, and they sound like it.
