car mount handheld CB with external antenna

Hello all,

I was wondering if it is possible to mount a handheld CB radio:

inside my 4Runner and connect it to an external CB antenna (similar to image below) mounted on the vehicle:

to improve range. The reason I want to go with handheld is because of its mobility and flexibility (I can take it out of the car with me on camping trips)

I haven't used an external antenna with my 75-822, but it works wonderfully with a cobra extendable antenna for what I need at the moment. But many people run those Midlands with a mag mount and get by pretty well.

If you need the mobile capabilities then that will work, just make sure you get it tuned. If you are just trying to avoid having a bulky CB radio in your truck then you can go with the Cobra wx/st. I installed the main box (about the size of 2 decks of cards) behind the center console near the gas pedal, then ran the plug to that point as well. That allows me to plug the mike in and hang it on the grab handle, or stow it in the glove box when I don't need it. I put the antenna on the front bumper.
