Cargo storage ideas please

In the car/truck, I always like to carry with me the following items:

1. large flash light
2. plug in 12v hand held light
3. working Gloves
4. pliers, bungee cords, screw driver, etc
5. small tire compressor

Basically stuff for emergency.


Any way, with the existing compartments, I cannot fit all this in. Mine is a Limited so the compartment is used by the sub woofer. Do you have any good ideas for storing these. What I do now is put everything in bag and then bungee cord it to the anchors. i just want something that looks a little nicer. I don't like the cargo net idea, i think it gets in the way.

Personally, I use an ice chest strapped down, but that's just becuase I haven't had the time to build a cargo box. By far the best thing I've seen is J.A.'s cargo box, but it requires you to be good with woodwork (or at least access to tools and enough materials for trial/error). Here's his write-up.

Nice set up and thanks guys for the idea, but I was thinking of something less permanent and more flexible. Something that can be easily removed (or moved around) if I need the extra space.

I keep things under my front seats- on the driver's side, my jack stand, work gloves, a knife. On the passenger side, a folding shovel and an inverter. I have a Sport so I keep stuff in the compartments too. But I also have a Rubbermaid bin in the back as well. It contains things that change with the season, and I can just pull it out when I need to. It stays put because I loop nylon straps through the d-rings and the child seat anchors.

yea i do the same thing with the rubbermade but with a bungee and have the strap wrap around the lip of the rubbermade so it wont go no where, while attached to the child car seat rings. thats for towels/surf/beach stuff...but then also large nylon bag w/ tools/shovel/gloves/water/etc-basically emergency kit. I can always throw nylon bag in rubbermade to make more room. get a first aid in there too buddy.

I have a husky liner in the rear as well. It was too slippery for my dog, so I cut some short knap carpet and laid it down for him. I even cut it to cover the seat backs when they are folded down. Now my tool bag doesn't slide all around. no need for a box here, although I'll admit I have WAAAYYY to many tools in that bag! LOL
