Carista not supporting 2018 4Runners??

Just checked the Carista website. While it does say the BT dongle is compatible with Apple IOS, I wouldn't count on it. Many BT dongles on Amazon are quick to point out the lack of Apple support. Have a friend with an Android phone? Try it. I used the Scantool OBD MX with my Android Samsung S7. Zero problems. I only bought the 7 day Carista access. I made changes for two 4runners, two Camry's and a Rav4.

I use the Scantool OBD MX in my Dodge Diesel with the Torque app on an old Android device as my RPM gauge. Because FCA quality control.

OBD Fusion and Dash Commander (there are others too). Get the extended params for either and you can have access to literally everything your ECU monitors. It is basically a cheap version of ScanGauge.

I have used the Carista OBDII adapter with iOS for the last five years, zero issues, many others too. If you haven't got first hand experience with it why would you say it doesn't work? (like me calling Android a peice of sh!t having never used it ) I am sure there are people that have issues, just with anything (more often than not are user error). Admittedly the $15 generic clone BT adapters are totally hit and miss.

Carista works well with my 18 TORP. Using iPhone 7.
Make sure you have the latest app.
Your dongle may be faulty.

Ah thanks. [emoji106] I keep seeing posts about using it to program the functions without a dealer but not much else.

Bought one on Amazon Saturday and it just showed up (still blows my mind they deliver that fast and on a holiday). It didn't ask me for the make our model, but I did have to turn the Bluetooth on and off a few times. Oddly it doesn't show up in my list of connected devices, but I had the Automatic OBD device before and that one didn't either. I'm using an iPhone 8 Plus with the latest iOS on a 2018 ORP. Good luck, I'd say keep trying the ignition and maybe turn the iPad off and on.

I contacted Carista & after having me send a trouble report from the app, they instructed me to return the adapter and have a new one sent.

I have a 2019 TRD ORP. Using Carista on Android with a OBDLink LX via Bluetooth. I can connect for diagnostics and clear codes, but when it scans for customizations, it gets to about 3% and then asks for make/model. App only lists up to 2017 4Runner.

Tried OBD Fusion a while back and it is very slick with countless perameters the average person would never use. Setting-up gauges is very nice and comprehensive. Bought the app and the full Toyota add-on.

Had no luck getting proper oil temp or pressure, no idea if the transmission temp it was giving me was accurate (engine oil temp and transmission temp were identical??), didn't give me TPMS data, a few other things that I was astounded at and that pissed me off... Yes, I ran it through a full scan, set perameters up by the book and used a compatible dongle. The only things it gave me that I know was accurate and really wanted were battery voltage and coolant temp. I wanted a few gauges for basic drivetrain data and maybe scanning for a code or two if I ever got a light on my dash but after being told by support to "just try it again" after explaining everything I'd done, I contacted Apple support and got my money back. Very nice looking app but couldn't get much basic information out of it which seems ridiculous for such a thing. Would recommend it highly, I just didn't think it was worth the money.

Downloaded Car Scanner onto my tablet but haven't played with it much. However, for my purposes I do get as much out of it for free as I did with OBD Fusion for $30 from what I've seen briefly.

Kevin from Lifestyle Overland just did a video on BlueDriver which looks really skookum if one is looking for a dedicated scan tool for iOS wthout needing realtime gauged drivetrain data, etc.
