Carpet removal question

I'm starting to pull the interior to clean it out and ran into a roadblock. What is holding the carpet on in the driver's footwell area in the upper left corner and how do you detach it?

Thanks.

I think there was some Velcro like material connecting it to the firewall somehow.

there is a cut out that slides into the carpet. remove the lower kick panel and pull the carpet out and away. nothing is attached. it will come right out. the kick panel attaches to the metal bracket that the carpet slit goes to.

I put in a new carpet last summer & this was all I had to do.

Thanks! Yep, I got the kick panel off already. I didn't want to pull really hard on the carpet though. Why? When I pulled the kick panel, the crappy aftermarket alarm brain fell down. This thing is a total rats nest. There are unconnected wires dangling all over(I covered all the exposed wires with electrical tape). I didn't want to yank the carpet and rip out wires. If this 4Runner doesn't start then I'm screwed.
