Just picked up this 1988 3.0 Automatic SR5, and decided to create a thread for the restoration. I've got my hands full the next few months, but thought it would be fun to post and keep track of all of the updates.

For those that have done a few restorations before, your help and insight is greatly appreciated!

Hey, Casper is looking great!!!!!

Do you have a list of items you want to do?

I'd personally start with the vitals such as:
-Lubrication such as greases and oils
-Air filter (I know it's a duh)
-Bushings
-If not doing a lift - what's the condition of the shocks/struts.

For our 88, Pappy, he needs a ton of body work, but it also needs it's vitals done. Vitals are first on the list starting with lubrication.

Good luck, looking forward to seeing progress and process.

Thanks!!

Lubrication, air filter, bushings have been taken care of. Those were high on my priority list. Also had a gearbox leak, so that was fixed as well.

Right now it has a 4 inch lift, which is ok. But I want to go back to a more classic chrome wheel, and increase the tire size.

For now, it drives great, just going to spend time cleaning the interior. New carpet, shampoo the seats, fix some of the trim (PO drilled speakers into the side panels).

It needs some body work, so eventually I'd love to do a dent repair and get it repainted.

Here are some updates from the past week.

Pulled the seats and stripped the carpet. Was then able to steam clean the interior.

Found some interesting goodies along the way...

Here are a few more updates... Spent some time removing the amp, and external speakers. They worked well, just not a fan of the external gear. Especially with the top off, I fell like its asking to be stolen. As a result, spent some time rewiring the stereo, and put in a new head unit and speakers.

Might even sell the old stuff if anyone is interested.
