Catalytic Converter Replacement

I'm new and this may be a topic already discussed but couldn't pin.it down. I have a 90 4runner with the v6 3vze. I need a new catalytic converter and I've looked at quite a few online. I need to know which one you would recommend without breaking the bank. I live in Alabama so no emission check or regulations. I know I could run a straight to the muffler but don't want to effect performance. Any ideas or links. Thanks in advance.

check your local auto parts stores. just so you know and im guessing it really doesnt matter since you dont smog but anything other than factory cat will only really last about a year from normal use. they dont put in as much of those precious metals like factory does, hence the price diff.

on my 91, there is ONE sensor around the cat and it is before it. I'm thinking of ditching the cat and everything behind it and going with a turbo muffler of some sort and new piping.

Where in AL? I'm up north, about an hour south of Huntsville.

Yea I went with the straight myself, just a temp fix. Like you said looking at all new pipe or atleast muffler upgrade. I'm about 2 1/2 hours south of Huntsville. In between Gadsden and anniston.

I'm waiting to hear back on a quote for my factory cat but I have an exhaust from a different car I was going to make work on this one... However instead if just scrapping the cat I looked online. I could get between $90-150 for my factory one depending on the size. not sure what they're looking for though.

I look at this as a bit of a theft deterrent too... aftermarket cats are worth about $7 scrap.

We've got great wheeling in Al! Choccolocco ORV is awesome and is in Jacksonville. We have had 2 pretty good parks close in the last year, Gray Rock and Mountainside. We still have Great American Park or GAP around Auburn, and Hale mountain which is on the TN/AL boarder.

Since you don't have emissions testing, I'd think the least expensive one would be fine.
I stuck a generic one from NAPA on my 84 and it's worked fine for years.
