Catastrophic Fan Failure on a 2014

My brother has two stainless Marlin SBLs in .45-70. With the riots on the run-up to the last presidential election, he bought one for each home (Corona Del Mar and Cambria).

Wife picked up her 2014 in Idaho Falls today and drove it the 300+ miles to Stevensville, MT. Runs perfectly.

With some self containment add ons, that’s a good place when the flash comes.
BTW, maybe I missed it, but what was the final diagnosis on the fan?

Fan clutch seized causing fan itself to break apart.

If you have ever had a clutch fan bearing fail and cause it to separate and eat everything in it's path, then you learn to grab that thing often and give it a wiggle.

Can't say I have ever had one seize up though. Interesting.

tire shine ruined your serpentine belt??? we sure about that?

I can't say for certain that the cause was the oil coating. But it's a pretty high probability.

It's pretty easy to diagnose a belt vs pully noise with a squirt bottle and just shoot some water on the belt. Noise goes away tells me that it's the belt. Belt wasn't that old and visually looked good. OEM belts don't normally need replacement in 60k miles.

Noisy belt + belt covered in light oil = probably belt damaged by light oil.
