CB Anetnna Mount!!

Mine did too. Put the end that mounts to the body in a bench-mounted vice and pushed on it a bit to bend it away from the hatch and closer to the body. Worked perfectly and took 2 minutes.

I think I might do that and also grind it down a bit too maybe
 
$50+ for a bent up piece of metal that puts your antenna in the worst possible location for reception is absurd... a guy on here designed and fab one up, a company probably copied him, i doubt they paid him any royalties or bought the rights to copy it... i personally would not buy one just on that principle. then there is the fact that its a bad bad place to a CB or any other type of antenna. then its cost is ridiculous, so what if its CNC bent and cut and powder coated... they can make at least 150 of these at a time easily. powder coating could be done in bulk like again 150 or more at a time... cost should be around $5 or less each to make, its not like they are labor intensive...

I have to agree with this to some degree. I had my antenna on my 85' 4Runner on the rear tube bumper in the corner like this mount places it. I broke numerous antennas with it in that location. Generally happened when I backed into a tree.... granted I didn't really care what I backed into with my 85' 4Runner and I do with my 2000 4Runner.
 
I'm sorry, but I would be a little more than bugged if I paid that much for something that basic and it rubbed the lift gate. I also don't like the ODL logo, especially on the bumpers they make.

I did the same as FR4R with mine. There's no need to grind it if you do that. There is plenty of clearance between the mount and body to allow a little "wiggle room."

On the plus side. I only paid $42 or so shipped for mine from ODL. But I didn't get it powder coated.

I still have to grind mine cause as soon as it is closed it is rubbing and touching the hatch.

So where is the best place for an antenna on the 3rd gen?

the best place for any antenna is on a flat plane, as large of a flat surface as you can get, so ideally up on the roof in the center. the issue with that is it starts hitting trees and other stuff, and there is no good practical way to mount the antenna up there -magnets suck

so the next best place would be the front bumper or hood, the front bumper -providing you have at least a 3-4' antenna would put most of the mast up above the plane of the hood and allow the hood to be a "reflector" for signal as well as the windshield. hood/fender mounts also are idea, but you may run into the issue of fitment with the hood and opening and closing the hood. -wearing off paint, damage to coax cable ect. the down sides to both of these is they are almost always in your view and some people dont like that. me personally i didnt mind when i had mine on the front brush guard back in the day.

Has CBI started selling them individually yet just for CB use? A week into owning my rig and I've had to deal with a magnetic antenna. Not the best option, but it's all I have until I find a more permanent place for a mount.

according to their website, no. but i bet if you gave them a call or an email im sure they would sell you just one -even if you dont have the snorkel id say get the drivers side one, the passenger side will put the CB antenna close to your radio antenna and the two might cause interference with each other being so close.
