has anybody mounted their cb antenna above the tail light? i was going to try to mount mine there because i think it would look good and i dont really want to mount it all the way down near the bumper.

The Drifter33 mounts have the cb antenna mounting surface below the tail light so the antenna runs vertically along the corner of the light. It puts the antenna in the same place you're talking about but maybe 6" lower. I made my own using his idea, but it probably would've been quicker just to buy one from him.

yea ive seen that one before and i might do that if i cant find a way to mount it above the tail light.

Got tired of catching it in the hatch and I wanted it a little higher so I rearranged the mount and stuck it here instead. I'm using a Wilson whip so it just bends when it hits a tree.
I will warn you another person copied this from me and got some damage when he flopped onto it and the mount didn't bend. I'm not moving mine, though.

It doesn't work there. If you try to put it on as it arrives the mount faces forward instead of back like mine. I didn't want that because I didn't want it to hook on anything like a branch so using a Big Friendly Hammer and a vise I convinced the mount to fit the other direction, then finessed it to fit the contour of the truck. It wasn't hard, just took a little patience. I ran the cable through the taillight lens and notched the taillight itself to fit everything together.

I wouldn't put my antenna back there again.
You're range is greatly decreased because there is no ground plane, and most the antenna is blocked by your hatch. Unless everyone is going to be behind you all the time, it doesn't make much sense.
I had my antenna back there for 1 trip, and it sucked. I moved it in the front, mounted from inbetween my hood and front fender. Reception was much better. Use the metal on your car as a dish for the radio waves to bounce from and hit the antenna.

This is a good idea, but your antenna mount doesn't appear to be grounded very well.

awwww my image was used i'm so honored! but this is old and my runner looks mo' betta.
dude contact drifter33... this mount definitely adds a bit of character to the truck. (my mom says it looks like a big RC car...)
