CB antenna

I was wondering where the best place to put the antenna on a second gen. The CB radio is installed, in the dash, under the ash tray. I am not real keen about drilling holes in the body so I was thinking about a magnetic mount and placing it just in front of the roof rack. I noticed that some had mounted it on the inside of the front fender, but I was told that location is not the best for transmitting or receiving. Any suggestions.....

If you're only using the CB for tail runs, any location will work.
Id suggest mounting in a location you like and making sure you set the SWRs.

If you plan on using it for highway driving etc yes the roof it the best location.

I ran my CB in my Center ash tray and the antenna out the factory antenna hole on the finder. My antenna didn't work so i didn't mind taking it out. Also, I just use Bluetooth for music. Ill have a right up on this on my build thread soon.

This set up works fine on trails and I've notices some decent range on the highway, nothing crazy.

That's a good idea using the original hole in the fender, I'm sitting here wondering why I hadn't thought of that! lol

Very nice set up but my radio is way to big so it went under the dash, but I like the antenna setup. I look forward to seeing how you set the antenna in the old hole.

Ok, after reading the replies and reading some of the old posts I have decided to stay with the roof mount. I still have the stock roof rack and am going to mount the antenna to it with a clamp bracket and run the coax down the rear door outside the gasket and then under the carpet to the front. Unless I change my mind again.........
