CB Mounted Overhead

Has anyone mounted their CB radio overhead? I was thinking about building a bracket to go across the overhead and bolt under the o-shit handles on each side. Thoughts and comments welcome.

I haven't, but recall that there are holes already drilled higher up, in the horizontal side, like 10 inches from the stocks grips and we can relocate or add to them, hope that helps somehow?

what kinda of radio are u mounting in your TR4. Reason I asked if your running a Cobra 29 things could be a little tight over head. If you are running a Cobra 29, I found the best mount for the money cost me about $10.00 on ebay and it called a pedestal mount. picture below is how I have mine setup

I considered that, then somebody pointed out the major risk of head injury in the event of an accident. There isn't much head clearance.

Midland makes a pretty good Cb have u checked out the Cobra 75 wx now this only requires at cig lighter connection and they work great paired with a good antenna like a Wilson 1000 steel wip

I went with a wx75 so nothing to leave out. I'll put a ham faceplate up there in the future.

Well like most things I do I figure it out as I go, so

I made the pieces under the handles out of 1/16" stainless. I just transfered the bolt holes from one of the handles and then I bent it until there was clearence between the bracket and the headliner.

The cross pieces are 1/2 x 1/2 x 1/16 square tubing from Home Depot. I used a tape measure to get the initial measurement of 40" and the had to shorten them by 1/2". I used a thin cutoff wheel to cut notches in the ends of the tubing so they would slide up onto the brackets.

I used a piece of 2" PVC pipe to roll an arch in the tubing by putting the piece of pvc pipe on the floor and took the tubing in hand at the ends and rolled it back and forth until it fit.

The plate for the CB mount is 1/8" mild steel, drilled and tapped for 10-32 machine screws.

After I welded the pieces of tubing and mounting plate together I slid it onto the brackets and tacked it in place. I then removed the assembly from the truck and welded it out and painted it.

no, wait....I don't hate to dig it up...
since I know it's better than starting a new one.

I, too...need to mount overhead.
My head unit has USB, so the "computer" in it causes noise on my CB.
(yes, I have it powered directly from the battery)

I wondered if anyone tried to use the sunglass compartment?
I took the whole map light assembly off,
and it would only be a matter of popping out the sungless container...
but I was afraid I was going the break the plastic.
Which is not really a problem,
except that I didn't want to ruin the whole unit..
if the idea didn't work and I had to put it back together.
