CD Changer Question

I am a brand new member who needs help. I have already performed a search on the forum, but have been unable to find the answers to these questions.

I am considering purchasing a Toyota Six Disc CD Changer for my 2003 4Runner. How difficult is the installation? I know that the unit goes into the front console box, but I have heard that it is necessary to remove the dash and also the entire front console. What exactly is involved with the install?

And if anyone has a copy of the Toyota Instructions for the 6 Disc CD Changer Installation that they could post (or is there a link?) that would be very helpful too, as I would like to see if this is something that I would feel comfortable doing myself.

Well, I just had one of these installed by the stealer today - took them 3.5 hrs... I would imagine that they are pros so there must be something to it. They installed a wiring harness which was the labor sink...

Yes, this is also a big concern I have. My dealer actually quoted me 4 hours for installation at $80.00/hr. Seems like a lot to me, which is why I wanted to find out exactly what is involved with the installation. I am also concerned about my dealer putting lots of scratches in the plastic, because this happened once before with an interior replacement item. (They are not very careful and detail-oriented there) So if I can't do it myself, then I'm not sure I want my dealer installing it. (I live in a rural area, and the next closest dealer is over 70 miles away). Any suggestions?

Where to buy

As I am waiting for information on the CD changer installation, I was curious as to where I might purchase this unit for my 2003 4Runner. I am looking for the actual Toyota OEM 6 Disc CD Changer (console box mounted). I have looked on Ebay, but I don't see the actual Toyota ones. What is the best place to purchase one other than on Ebay? thanks

Yes supraCP, I have the compartment that you speak about, but I believe that the Toyota CD Changer for this vehicle must go into the center console. I am looking for a link to the instructions so that I can see if this is an installation that I feel comfortable doing. Thanks for your help.
