CD Player quit working

Today I was playing a CD in my 2004 and it quit working, I put in another CD and it says LOADING for about 10 seconds and the unit spits the CD out. So, no CD's. I had another CD player in my Honda and I could hit a re-set button, but I can't see anything like that in my stock radio / CD / cassette player. Anyone know if there is a simple way to fit it or am I out of luck?

I got a stock radio from my 04 if you wanna buy it when yours takes a dump.
40 bucks

The stereo units Toyota uses are just crap. I have been told they are made by Eclipse, which are junk from what I remember from my stereo installation days. I have a 08 and my radio is very defective. From time to time the display will turn into big black blocks, if I have any CD’s in the unit it will, at random, start spitting them out, sometimes it will change from FM to CD or to AUX, sometimes it will just turn off and still other times if you try and adjust the volume using the volume knob it just spins around and around while nothing happens. My buddy has a 04 and has the same volume knob issue.

I had it back to the dealer and they looked up the model number and said “Yep, it’s defective”. They will replace it however the thought of having the dealer pull my dash apart turned me off. Don’t’ ever let a dealer touch your interior. They always F it up.

I will replace this myself when I have the extra money but till then what has been working for me is just to turn off the ignition and then on again. It seems to clear / reset the unit.

Just a up-date. I tried disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes. The radio preset stations were all cleared, I was hoping the unit would re-set itself.

I then tried a disc cleaner and I noticed that the disc I put in, the disc did not even turn. It would pop out in the same position I had put it in, meaning the disc is not spinning around. So, I think I am pretty much screwed, as far as saving the CD player. :happens:

This can mean that the laser sled is stuck out of position. They use a very fine lube on it and over the years it gets contaminated and dried out by heat. Until the sled is returned to it's home position it won't even try to read a disc.

couple months ago mine got to where it wouldnt read a CD either and hasnt read one since, it finally displayed an error 3 reading which i am told is a fatal error, so i will be installing the Eclipse AV 6620 soon

The lazer might have been bumped off track if you've been going over rough terrain or whatever. I would just buy a cheap stock HU or this could be an excuse to upgrade :D

I was having issues with mine. I don't know if you want to take the same path I did, but I will outline it.

Removed the stereo

took the faceplate off and finally came to the conlusion that the pins that were connected to the main unit were not making a clean connection. I figured out where all of the parts were connected and moved everything forward. When it was time to put the faceplate back on, I made sure that I pushed the faceplate as far toward the rest of the HU as possible before I tightened the screws.

I think the Srews yota uses loosen up over time and its a simple matter of getting the connections back tight. My stereo has worked like a dream ever since. Hit me up if you want to go through it.
