CDNsurf's Introduction/Build

Alright its been awhile since my last post. Nothing has been done to the truck just driving it!

I moved down to Calgary for the summer for an internship. So I have just been spending money on gas when I go back every once in awhile (300km one way trip) been averaging about 10.5-11 L/100km or 21-22 MPG all highway driving at around (120-130 km/hr)

I guess a small update, I got a good deal on a set of 4th gen 4runner wheels that I am going to mount my General Grabbers on. The next question is what colour should I paint/refinish them?????? Im thinking a dark silver/gun metal or black. I also been thinking about using plasti dip cause I am kinda lazy and don't like painting....

I've done some searching and haven't seen to many people running these wheels so post some pictures if you have some.

Here's a picture of the wheels

Much better then the split 3's in my mind

I plastidipped mine and they have held up great. The plastidip really isn't fazed by anything unless you dip the wheel and then put tires on. The machine kinda fudges up the edges. But the great thing is if you plastidip them and spray too thick, have runs, or you just don't like it all you have to do it dig your fingernail in and peel it all off.

Thanks for the review, have any pictures?. I have been reading a bunch about it and it seems like a good short to long term solution.

Just trying to see how it compares to if I was to spend more time and do a bit of prep work then go the whole nine yards (primer, paint, clear) the only issue is that plasti dip is fairly expensive up here around 20~25 a can...

Doing a bit of research I am really liking the look of graphite/anthracite grey. Think they would be a good combo with the stellar blue?

The debate between plastic dip and paint seems to be a price

4 cans of anthracite grey would run me $80 shipped...
Haven't check local prices yet, but I imagine a can or two of primer, paint and clear coat will be much cheaper. Just gotta factor the prep time with painting.

Anyone with experience can let me know "how" much you should prep/sand your wheels, a full blown job or just rough it all/ smooth it with a scotch pad?

This is the colour I am trying to achieve

The best thread I found for painting wheels is BrianSD_24's How To found here. It goes through step by step and shows/tells you what to do and buy.

As far as the charcoal color, I'm a fan as that's what I did and I have the same color combo as you (I however repainted my fender flares to better match the wheels).

An idea of color, if you need to refer to more pictures, some can be found in my build thread:

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.

I'm leaning towards painting them now. Just going to check into some local prices. Will keep it updated

Awesome thanks!

What colour is that? Anthracite Grey, Black, or Gunmetal Grey?

They look great, how long have they held up for you?

Im torn, I think If I can get a decent price on a few cans of plastic-dip I'm going to give it a try.

That's black, they've held up great. The only think that fazes them is the tire machine.

Ohh the black does seem a bit lighter in the sun eh?

Thanks for input, I think I will be doing the rims plastic-dip once I get them mounted in a few weeks. Just gotta decide the colour and buy it online, cause up here in Canada they want $20 a can!

A small update:

Last weekend I got my AC compressor put in! oil change and my new tires mounted on the 4th gen rims I need to paint for the fall

Also because of Canada Day:canada:

I had some more free time today,

Finally got around to installing my Hertz rear speakers and amping them along with the front to my alpine power pack. Haven't had much time to play with the settings but sounds awesome!

Also I had ordered 3k 35W HID's from DDM when I got my Cree LED reverse bulbs and got them integrated into the fogs (as per the Sealed HID guide I found on here)
