CEL/No Power! Help please!

I just purchased Saturday evening from a used car lot about an hour from my house. Sunday I put it in the garage to really go over it. Pulled a plug, it looked good. Checked the air filter, it looked good. Pulled the MAF sensor and cleaned it with CRC MAF sensor cleaner. Let it dry and put it back. That's about it.

Monday evening I crank it up to pull it out of the driveway and the CEL is on (along with the other lights as always). I run the codes and get P0102 and P0113. Google tells me it's likely a MAF problem. I go out to the truck and check and determine that I forgot to plug the MAF back in after I screwed it back on. I plug it back in and forget about it thinking that the CEL will reset.

I get in the truck this morning and the lights are still on. About 10 minutes into my commute, I lose power. Like it's running on 4 cylinders or something. Idle surges and the truck almost dies. It will intermittently regain power, but the lights stay on.

Thoughts? Is this MAF dead? Did I kill it with the cleaner? I swapped a Spectra brand MAF in from Advanced, but it didn't do any good.

Well, that will teach you to not do preventative maintenance again! What were you thinking??? But seriously, I was always told not to mess with MAF sensors unless they throw a code since they are quite delicate.

Check out these FSM guides. They might help you understand the original CEL code problems, which I suspect are related to what's happening now.

Thanks for the links. I just went out and checked to see if I had left a vacuum hose lose or anything, but I coudln't find a thing wrong. I cranked it up and the car was idling very rough! I guess I'll dig into it some more when I get home.

Got some new codes when I got home. Along with the P0102 and P0113, now I have P0357,356,354,351.

I just bought one that the guy thought had an engine issue. It was throwing all kinds of codes. He didn’t torque the plugs properly. Runs mint now. It appears you only pulled one plug but I would check that it’s sealed. Or you ruined your maf sensor.

Thanks for the suggestion. Everything seemed fine and torqued, but I redid it anyway.

I took it out this morning after resetting the ecu and got all the same codes (minus 113 and 102) plus p0300. CEL was flashing this time, so I pulled over and cut the car off and read the codes. When I started it back up the light was solid, so I drove it home. Taking it to the shop now.

*Fingers crossed* It has been fixed! The shop said they tracked the problem back to the #7 coil. There was corrosion on the terminal end of the coil pack and it was shorting out and causing other coils to short as well (I guess they're grounded together).
They replaced the bad coil and all is well, at least for now. I got it back yesterday and it's been smooth as silk now for 40 miles. I'll update if something goes wrong.
My guess is the car dealer washed the engine and water somehow got down into that coil pack causing the corrosion.
