CEL Port

Would like to know where to find the port so I can see what codes my 4Runner is throwing. Went to autozone they said it was too old for them to check

Pre-96 vehicles are OBD-I so there is no conventional port to connect a code reader to.
You have to jump 2 terminals on a connector under the hood, the count the number of flashes of the CEL.
You can find detailed instructions if you use the Search function.

fourwd1, Did search, nothing I typed in brought anyhing up about where to find the connector. Looked under the hood found 2 connectors stuck in rubber sockets/boots used paper clip across terminals no CEL flash no matter how I jumped them.

It would help to know what year and engine.
For example, if it's a carbed 4 cyl (22R), there are no CEL codes.

for the v6(not sure if its the same for the 22RE)the port is by the fuse box by the battery. you will need to jump terminals E1 and Fe1 (i think those are the two correct me if im wrong) and turn the key to run but dont start it. codes have 2 digits. count the first set of flashes. that will be the first digit(3 flashes=3x) second set of flashes is the second digit( 2 flashes=x2) that would show a code 32 for example. there will be a pause in between codes if more than one exist. count all of them as it will cycle back through and repeat them all. if you have an auto, the o/d off light will flash the same way for trans codes. to reset the engine codes, pull the EFI fuse for 30 seconds. not sure how to clear trans codes though....

Sounds like you found the two plugs on the drivers fender. You want the one with two slots, not three. Jam an opened up paperclip or jumper wire in there deep as you can, then turn your key to On (just before the crank position). Your Check Engine light should blink steadily if there's no trouble - if it's an intermittent blink, write down the pattern of blinks, because those are the codes. If it's not blinking at all, I'd make sure your Check Engine light isn't burned out...
