Hey all- This is a continuation of the Central VA Trails Thread started by GHARP57. This is a poll to help decide where everyone wants to go.

Meeting up in Charlottesville makes the most sense and it seems like 8/22/15 will be a good date for most of the group. Do we want to meet at 10AM? The Northern VA members could still make it without too much trouble.

I voted flag pole. It would be new to me which is cool and hearno knows the trail. Everyone is wondering if august 22 is the lock date. Im cool with it.

I'm good with the date as well. I'll have to request any weekend off regardless so it doesn't make much of a difference to me.

I too will be in a STOCK 15 Trail with the dealer tires (I don't even know what they are because I don't plan on them being on there any longer than they have to).

This is going to be AWESOME!

This is going to be AWESOME!

It appears to be shaping up that way.

For those concerned about Flag Pole and stock(ish) vehicles. The second to last time I was there, I saw an 18 year old kid and his g/f cruisin around in a very stock FJ. Neither their bodies nor the rotted out hull of the FJ were there on my most recent trip so I'm guessing they got out with no issues. I'm confident we will get the most unmodified of vehicles through the trail. It may take a little doing, but that's half the fun. As long as you're not a maniac, pin stripes should be the most you have to deal with.

Here are some pics and a video from Flag Pole. Not the greatest, sorry.

Flag Pole is the clear front runner. Lets go ahead and plan on 8/22/15 and if anyone else can't make it for scheduling conflicts just let us know when you are available.

I'm planning to camp out Saturday evening and continue the expedition on Sunday. I'm not sure what you guys have in mind for that weekend, but if you are interested in that let me know and we can discuss overnight plans.

This is really shaping up to be pretty sweet and I'm looking forward to it!

I am sure it will be a day trip for me.

So this is looking like august 22nd meeting at 10 am at the Toyota here in town (C'Ville) then rolling out? Actually thinking about it, It may be better to meet just up the street at the Giant shopping center. more room and we can grab breakfast and fuel for those that would need to refuel.

Also I will have a bone stock 99 limited with Mich LTX tires. Do you think I will be fine?

As well. Anything I should bring in general with me? I imagine it is isolated so most likely some water and snacks to munch on

hearno - correct me if I'm wrong here, but for all of those who are worried about getting through the Flag Pole Run please see exhibit #A above. I almost laughed out loud at this photo. Do you know if he made it the whole way???

As far as what to bring . . . I'm bringing the whole caboodle as they say, but I like to be prepared for anything. Definitely bring a cooler of food & water for your party and I would bring a good camera if you have one because I think we will hit a few nice overlooks. Download the Gaia app on your phone - its a great gps app. I think this will be a walk in the park. If it isn't - there will be plenty of rigs to pull you out.

I am still not sure about my work schedule for that weekend. So, count me in on maybe basis.

On separate note, any plans for Labor day weekend?

I'm out for the trip I may be able to come out after work on Saturday and camp sat. Night and explore Sunday. Other wise I am out. I am plaining a trip in oct.

I have no idea how that car got there and I have no idea how they got it out. It was in between two parts of that trail that would require a careful line for a stock 4wd vehicle. I saw a Merc Cougar up there too and its rocker panels were beat to CRAP. The things people do in the woods when no one's watching...

Flag Pole is not a cake walk but we'll definitely be able to get everyone through it and have a good time doing it.

************ As far as a meet up time. 10AM is really early for those of us with a several hour drive. 1100-1200 might be easier and should put us on the mountain with plenty of time to wrap up by 6:00 PM latest. There's a Shell with a store for last minute snacks etc at 1010 W Market St. Harrisonburg that would work, there's a great power wash place right across the street too.

LOL ^^^

I don't mind waking up early for an adventure, but I'm extremely flexible on the time. I'm staying in the forest for the night so I'm good for whatever time you guys want to meet.

I avoid traveling on major holidays. I use holiday weekends to get projects done that I've been putting off ... and barbeque.

Sounds good to me. I was thinking it would be cool to have a convoy of Runners heading down 64 and 81 to Harrisonburg. It will take about an hour to get to Harrisonburg from Cville so that was my thinking on the 10 am, then we are at that Shell by 11ish like you proposed. I am easy to get along with. Anyone want to ride a convoy from Cville just let me know. :thumb:

I misread what you wrote, I'm tracking now. SMSmitty if you wanna meet me on your way from the beach, we could meet Gharp somewhere near 64 and 29 @1000 and continue in to Hburg.

haha it is all good hearno! coming from the beach on 64, you take exit 124 and the dealership/shopping center is 2 miles down the road on the left.
