Central VA Trails 2.0

I am sure us Local guys may be down to go again sooner! I know there were 3 of us plus a guy down in lexington who missed out and wanted to go [MENTION=127830]gmatherly[/MENTION] we gotta go soon!

Yeah! I'm most likely going to be able to do these trips on a Sunday as it's always difficult for me to get off a Saturday (I had to beg to get off for the Overland Expo in October) so if anyone wants to do this trip again sooner than later, let me know!

So it appears I'm not the only likes-to-get-down-and-dirty Super White '15 TEP prowling the streets of Lexington now....

Oh, and while parking downtown in my '02 last night, a fellow Hokie in a shiny Inferno BroPro passed by and gave the Runner wave...no clue who he is yet.

I'm the guy who was at the top of the hill.

I was on my way down and about to drop off the first ledge when your group leader started powering up the hill and told me to stop because he had 10 people behind him. Because groups going uphill have the right of way I precariously backed up the ledge.

I was leading a group of novices who couldn't quite figure out where to turn off and by the time I was able to make my reverse I think your group leaders got impatient and told me to leave my truck and started squeezing by. Now add that there are 10 trucks behind him trying to get up a hill.. the momentum was not in my favor to stop and try to find a better position.

Most of your group was incredibly respectful and crawled up the ledge slow, steady, and with ease considering lack of lift and lockers - only 1 or 2 chose to blast up the hill with little regard to safety or surroundings.

Hope you all had fun - it was great seeing such a huge mix of 4runners on the trail and the new guys with freshly painted 5th gens learning how to use what their trucks were made for!

We did have fun, glad to see you are on the forum. Thank you very much for doing what you guys did do for us. It was the worst timing for both groups. had we been a couple minutes slower we would have had zero issues moving around each other. I know for one i was scared shitless of that rock face. I was 2nd in line with the stock 3rd gen and I had NEVER crawled up a rock. So thank you and the older gentleman as well (may be you) for guiding me up. We may have to you guys meet up with us so we can do it all together, or even do peters mill.

I appreciate the added challenge. I assume that younger guy was your son, he did a fine job being a spotter.

Facebook - Alright guys there is a current FB group that a fellow runner owner has already started called "Virginia 4Runners".

Its a small closed group which might work out really well for us. At this point I don't see any need to reinvent the wheel so to speak so let's give it a shot. Give it a quick search and let's run with it. The guys name is Nate Wade and he seems excited to grow the group with a bunch of like minded folks. I think it would be nice to have a way to stay in comms, share upgrades, pics, rides and general 4runner stoke.

If you're in the Lexington area then I think i've seen you going up 81 and tried to speed up to catch a glimpse of that rack (i ordered one a few weeks ago) lol.

There's also a white trd pro around here but I think it's a W&L student who has no intention of playing in mud based on how super clean it was lol.

Man Im glad you're on the forum here, as you do have a nice 5th gen and you are appreciative of trail riding. It seems that we share a lot of the same interests, Im also impressed at some of the newer model 4runners that was in the group going through the trails. On the other hand, I believe blasting up the hill like one or two of us did was by all means safe and considerate. I was one of those guys and I feel I did a great job making it through. I was totally in control and aware of what was in front of me, and the other guy is a very experienced trail driver and was bossing a manual transmission up that hill. I do apologize for coming over the top and startling the ladies that were behind your 4runner. I also appreciate what you guys did for our group, thank you for stepping to the side and allowing us to come through. You guys just added to the experience of our ride that day.

Thats what I did. N I was last so none of the rocks he stacked were holding. Lmao. I missed his truck by an inch. I'm sure I made him pucker up too. lol

Trust me...no one was puckered as much or for as long as I was!

You definitely pulled that hill off well! You gained a lot of great experience to climb a technical rock face with multiple hazards. Hope it made you want to get more of that and didn't scare you away lol.

That white TRD Pro around town is not a REAL BroPro....it has a factory Sunroof and yes, totally spotless / stock. I've seen him once, earlier this summer behind me on Main.

Most of my projects are in Lexington so I'm down from Staunton / Harrisonburg most days of the week. Usually, I'm in my 02 Runnner, which you also can't miss.

Will have to catch up sometime.

Oh it didnt! I thought about it and was sad I didnt try the rocks just before it or get any pictures. Everyone was just caught up in the moment.

i dont think that hill would have gone as well as it did if it was not for you guys helping spot and placing rocks when needed

Sounds good! I had only seen the "BroPro" (I love this term) a few times and never got a good look beyond it's grill. I'd love to take a look at your 5th gen sometime as I'm in the process of upgrading the suspension and i'm not quite sure what i want but it seems like your build is going the same direction as i have planned for mine.
