Change the antenna mast myself

Thanks habanero.

I was so focused on the nut behind the center screw I didn't notice anything come free after I removed that screw. Searched the entire driveway on my hands and knees but found nothing but skinned knees.

I asked at the dealership but the guy could only come up with a basic drawing of the motor and had no idea what the wire was for.

I had somewhere to be and just had to get it back together at the time. Didn't help trying to figure it out while it was hanging there, with the wheel in the way! I'll have to take it back out and fiddle with it.

New mast works great but I don't want to risk shorting out the motor and having to replace that, too. (First T4R I've owned that I'm actually willing to get my hands dirty. One day I'll look back at this first post and laugh!)

If it's working then either I'm wrong or you've manage to ground it anyway. IIRC (been awhile) it goes from the flat bit of metal to the screw, through the wire to the screw at the bottom, to the bracket to the screw that attaches bracket to body.
I forgot to attach the screw at the bottom of the wire once, antenna did not work until I fixed my error. I wanted to double-check for you but could only find part of the spare I robbed parts from to repair another antenna.

I might check a local junkyard but other than the nut I need I honestly wouldn't know what to do with another motor. Seems like a better idea to put that money towards a dremel and grind down the nut I have until it fits.

Sorry, not another motor, one at the junkyard that is too trashed for someone to use that you could pull the nut out of. Might be a lot of work for a nut.
Here I'd just go to one of the old-school hardware stores with all the bins and find what I need that way. If I found a nut that fit- metric first, standard if the metric version didn't fit- I'd buy a matching screw, make sure it fit in the hole in the motor case, and call it a day.
