Changed Plugs to Denso Iridium Powers

While I was changing my plugs today I ran across something odd. On the passenger side the 3 plugs I pulled out were Denso plugs but when I went to do the driver side they were all NGK plugs. So I put the Denso Iridium Power plugs into and will see if this fixes my milage drop that I have had for the past 2 or 3 tanks. Went from high 19 to 20 miles per gal to 17 to 18 per gal. Hope these plugs help.. I only have 18000 mile on my 2007.

Has anyone been running the Denso Iridium power plugs in there v6? If so what do you think of them?

It wasn't hard at all. I had to remove the air cleaner on the passenger side and on the driver side I had to remove a bracket. Also make sure you disconnect the wire from the plug coil before removing it. I took me less than an hour to change all 6 plugs.. BTW I go my plugs at advance auto parts 8.49 each plus tax.

im think about gettin the denso ikh 22 from urdusa, its 10 bucks a peice, compare to sparkplugs.com which is 12 a peice

I've been noticing some mileage drop on my ride. Got the E3 plugs through Summit Racing and I'll be doing them this weekend along with my TRD intake. Still pondering it, but I might also be ordering the Fitch Fuel Catalyst. It might be a stretch, but I'd like to see if the combination of these three could possibly get me 3+ MPG.

On a side note, it's not uncommon to find these engines from the factory with Denso's on one side and NGK's on the other.

This might be a dumb question, what makes eveybody think the spark plugs are the cause of the mileage drop. If that were the case why wouldn't you replace them with OEM plugs for a couple bucks a piece?

The V6 doesn't come with a long-life OE plug. It comes with a standard plug that works good for between 25-50k; Toyota says change them at 30k. I think most are seeking a long-life alternative or "something a little better" to maintain good performance for closer to the 100-120k the OE V8 plugs deliver. If you don't mind wrenching you're correct, just change them at 30k and life's good.

They must have fixed there problem from a couple years ago. They had the wrong plug listed for our V-6 4Runners. At the time they did not even make a long reach plug and the E3 site listed the E3.56 as the correct plug.

See This thread about E3s I started a couple years ago..

When I first saw your post I thought you might have put the short reach plugs in. After a little research I saw they had new plugs listed for the V-6.

Try these. Just a little bit cheaper (Cost vise), they are made my NGK.

NGK IRIDIUM IX LFR6AIX-11 Spark Plugs 6619

I got them from this seller, and installed them a couple weeks ago. It seems to be running fine. I can't say i gained any mileage or power. But they are a quality plug.

6 for less than $50 shipped.

Thanks for the heads up! The plugs I got are E3.68, so hopefully then it is the correct ones. I will make sure that I compare them first before I go putting them in.

I saw the same drop in mileage around 15k. I can't say for certain if it's mechanical, environmental, or I changed driving habits.

Just remember per the owners manual to maintain your emissions warranty you must change your plugs in the the V6s at least every 30k miles no matter what plugs you use. You can see this in the subnote on the 30k mile maintenance page of the maintenance handbook with your manual.

After your emissions warranty expires (@80k in most states) You can put in what ever you would like for as long as you like. :bigok:

I used them when I changed out the plugs in my v6 4Runner before I traded it in last year. They are very nice plugs.

For whatever reason I had to reset the ecu in the car after changing out the plugs. I had a drop in mileage after changing out the plugs then once I reset the ecu the mileage increased pretty quickly.

^ Very good to know. How do you reset the ECU?

Did you just pull the ecu fuse in the cab or did you pull the neg terminal on the battery? I pulled the fuse in the cab and the milage is slowly rising but I had already used up more that a 1/4 of a tank. Will beable to tell on next fill up. The truck is sure running better though.

I disconnected the battery for an hour. I've heard and also read here (I "think" I read it somewhere on the forum...) that it takes about 30 minutes to clear the ecu, but I could certainly be mistaken about that. Anyway, after I reset everything and the ecu adapted to my driving habits (again), the mileage increased back up (and a little higher) to where it was before I changed out the plugs.

Aaron, I recently changed all 6 plugs to the IKH20 and have not noticed my mileage back yet, trip computer range still says 325 mile for a full tank. Did your MPG come back after the ECU reset? Thx!
