Changing rear 12v outlets to USB plug

Search didn't come up with anything for the rear of the console.

I bought a flush mount USB adapter plug and put it in one of the rear 12v sockets but even though its flush the little cover for the outlet won't close and will eventually get ripped off by my kids. I have tried a couple different flush mount ones but all of them stick out just enough to interfere with the door.

I guess my only solution is to swap out the 12v cigarette plug for a USB hard wired plug. Has anyone done this and know of one that will fit easily and allow the cover to close?

For the ease of use I was going to say just go with the flush mount style and save yourself the hassle, but sounds like you already explored those options.

You can modify that area, but its going to require some cutting / fitting since the OD of those panel mount accessories are generally larger than the 12v plug area.

Personally I would add one or two of those in a convenient location, instead of trying to remove the existing 12v accessory plug. I have seen people put them in the doors which is a nice area for that sort of thing.

Those panel mounts usually use a 1-1/8” hole saw like this.

Thinking about doing this to the front one as all the usb port does is uncharge stuff.

I was going to suggest wiring the NEW USB device to the back of the "factory" 12V (Power Point) socket, adding the usb adjacent to the 12v socket and find a flat mount usb on ebay/Amazon for like... $6.00 bucks! It can look really good if the OP takes his time, paying close attention to detail.

I added these two LED face switches to my upper console to control the subwoofer amps to isolate them when a problem arises, like, you can't tell which one is say... cutting out intermittently, e.g.:

That's exactly the one I have on the rear of my console but the covers don't close all the way, they stick up at about a 45 degree angle and get hit everytime my kids sit in the middle seat.

I would just remove the cover...
