In general it seems Toyota cup holders suck. Everybody knows this. Maybe they are better in newer Toyotas. I had to mod the one in my 2000 Land Cruiser and it was the same story in my 2007 4Runner. In the 4Runner I used some velcro (so it can be removed) and foam can koozie. Cut the bottom out of the koozie and then cut the koozie to fit. Works perfect for everything I have put in there so far. I only have it on the driver's side as I am still waiting to come across another free black foam koozie for the passenger side. You also get a slight benefit of the koozie keeping your drink hot or cold a little longer!
