Check engine light + Trac off light on + 4LO blinking= ????


Does anyone know what this means?

Here's what happened:
Left in the morning to go to work and everything was normal. Left work and as soon as I turned the truck on these lights were on and the 4LO light was blinking the entire time I drove. I tried turning it off and messing with the 4LO dial/traction control buttons and none of that did anything. The truck drove completely normal except for these lights.

The 4LO light blinks the entire time i've driving. Should I stop driving it? I'm in the middle of resetting the ECU right now but just figured I would ask some of the guru's on here.

I'm not a guru by any means but I would read codes with ODB scanner first. Then you might have an idea what's wrong and figure if it's sometning serious or not.
 
I bet you had a fuse blow. But I am no professional.

Off topic, installing my bumper tomorrow. Any pointers? Do I really need to get a pipe bender for the power steering line or just do it by hand? You might be getting a text with questions tomorrow.
 
I get something like this problem every once in awhile, it used to be like every day for a whole month last year. Except mine was the 4lo blinking and the slip light on or just the slip light on. Also sometimes when I go into 4lo and go back into H2, the light keeps blinking. Toyota could never figure it out.
 
Had a similar problem myself...was accompanied by a bit of a rough idle the first time it happened, I took it to the dealer and they were able to pull codes and diagnosed a bit of a misfire at one point....they reflashed/programmed the ecu and bing bang boom problem solved (so far...it's been a few months now w no issues).

Okki had close to the same problem in his Limited, but his had no power. Seems like one issue can set off tons of idiot lights on these trucks!

I think they replaced the throttle body on Okki's.

Yup... they replaced the entire throttle body and there is a TSB for that. Do you have full power? I could press the pedal to the metal and barely move. After a tow truck ride to the dealer, it started fine; suggesting that an ECU reset may "fix" the issue for a while, but I think that Toyota know that there is a throttle body issue and depending on the severity of the issue there may be multiple "fixes".

Mine has been fine after the throttle body was replaced.

Did you happen to be pulling a trailer?

These lights came on and cruise stopped working on my truck when my ground came loose on my 7-pin. Fixed the loose ground, never saw them again.
 
I do have full power. The truck drive like normal. I wasn't pulling a trailer. I'm gonna be making a trip to the dealer tomorrow morning. Hopefully all goes well.

My truck flashed those lights when I was having a misfire issue. Unfortunately the issue recurred this weekend. Back to the dealer to find out for sure whether it is a bad coil or something else (last trip to the dealer they swapped 2 of the coils to try to corner the misfire).

Those lights are just idiot lights and could have nothing to do with what the problem is. Same warning lights I had when I removed my O2 sensors and bad ABS wire.

You need to get a code scanner for your OBDII port to read what the codes are or you can go to most automotive parts stores and they'll read them for you. I highly recommend the Scangauge II but you can get cheap readers for like $20-30 Amazon.com: Autel MaxiScan MS300 CAN Diagnostic Scan Tool for OBDII Vehicles: Automotive or they even have bluetooth transmitting ones now to send to your phone or laptop.

In this day and age of computerized vehicles a OBDII scanner is a tool everyone should have ,especially with modded vehicles. Plugs right in under the dash on the drivers side.
 
I had this issue just the other day after relocating one of the warning horns for trac while installing an intake. Turned out to be bad ground at the new locale. Are you able to switch to H4L and L4L? Strangely enough I was not able to while the 4Lo was blinking :shrug:

Scan guage II eh? If you say it's a must have then I must have it so it's been added to my list of must have's. :thumb3:
 
The truck is staying overnight at the dealership. They pulled the codes and one of the codes that stayed after reseting the ECU had something to do with low voltage to the power steering unit. Something about the wire to the ecu from the power steering unit was faulty. It's either the wire or the main ECU. They said they needed the truck for more then a day to fully trace the problem but should have it done by tomorrow afternoon. Basically they have to test all the wires and ECU to see exactly what's going on. As of now the issue is not with the throttle body or misfires. They sent me home with a 2012 Camry.

Hopefully I'll get the truck back tomorrow with some good news.
 
^You have a lift?

I know some people were having issues with sensors after lifting. They had to recalibrated, i believe...
 
Yes I have a lift. I will be doing a zero point recalibration to fix that issue. That's a completely separate issue.

So I got the truck back this morning and all is well. Piercy Toyota did an amazing job with everything. Customer service and communication was on point over there. No issues with anything.

The verdict was a faulty pressure switch at the power steering unit. They replaced the switch and it's all good now. Issue fixed. Thanks guys.
