Check engine light came on today driving home. 4LO light started blinking and VSC light came on solid with check engine light.

Drove home and plugged in OBD reader.

P0015 $07E8 Generic
B Camshaft Position Timing
Over-Retarded Bank 1

came up...

2010 with 137,000 miles. Any ideas what this might be? I read a little about it but don't see many people talking about this with 4Runners. I reset the code and will drive it tomorrow to see if the code comes back up.

6,600 miles on current oil. I change the oil with Toyota filter ever 7000 miles using 0w-20 Valvoline High Mileage Synthetic Oil.

Want some ideas before I bring it to a mechanic.

I am going to change the variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid/actuator for the Bank 1 side of the engine (Left side when standing in front of the truck looking at the engine). Hopefully this will keep the check engine light from coming back on. I work down the street from a Toyota dealer so ill stop by the parts shop and hope they have one in stock.

looks like its only a 10mm bolt holding it on and a not-so-quick disconnect electrical harness.

I will also change the motor oil. Don't have time until the weekend.

Before you replcae the OCV, check the screens at the oil pipes leading to them. Pipe comes from bottom to top each side. Take bolt out slowly and screens will be on the end of them.

Also, pull the cam position sensors off the valve cover and check for built up sludge, wipe off, put back. might save you some money on the OCV.
