Check Engine light come on for weeks along with VSC. Then goes off. Then come on..then off, but IF check engine light goes out, and the VSC stays on... then the VSC will stay on indefinitely, and Check Engine light Does Not come back on...

two different times, I paid $100 buck to Steelership to "Recalibrate Yaw" sensor... This works for a few months, then' Check Engine back on w/ VSC...

Diagnosis at Steelership & Muffler shop; Check Engine light due to Bad Manifold left bank... emmisions....

Replaced Left Manifold. After a few days, Check Engline ligh & VSC off. Week later, both back on.... A few days later...both off.... Another Week, Both on...
....And now, Check Engine Light off, BUT...VSC is ON!!!!

I'm out of guesses....

Any ideas??

Yeah, invest in an OBD II code reader so you can at least tell us what code is showing.

Second, if Im not mistaken, the VSC light automatically triggers a check engine light. So you could have one problem causing both lights or numerous problems causing both lights.

Which brings us back to step one - you've given us nearly zero information to make any type of guess as to what your issue(s) are.

That must be the culprit... Thinking back, the check engine going and staying off was after the Muffler shop used their scanner. (Its a Snap on). Last week, when the Check Engine went out on its own, the VSC stayed on, but this happen After I went to the Muffler Shop again.. IT was the AM start up that this happened...(check engine off, VSC on)

So that is it... Thanks for pointing that out....

I wonder why the Check Engine light doesn't go back on... Last week, the scanner gave a code.. i didn't write it down.. but they said it was left bank fuel mixture, blah blah.. thinking maybe we need a new downstream O2 sensor... But they DIDN"T clear the check engine. I told them not too... next morning, VSC lights on, No CHeck Engine....

I can go back free of charge anytime to get scan code.... I'll check to see if they kept from last week... and post if so...

***as far as me trying to Reset Calibration myself, not sure if I'm up to that....

Any chance there is a YOUTUBE vid on this??

**at this point, we'll see if I can figure a way to reset..

My Muffler shop MGR does all my work under the table Cheap.. I'll print your instructions... Maybe they can reset it.... using your method or similar. They did say they can't re-calibrate using traditional method, only Stealership...but...

After Reset Yaw... I would have to wait for Check Engine to Come back on again... as past experience indicates it may be off indefinably,

..but Winter is coming in Upstate NY...so VSC is needed..

I can confirm that based on my VIN #, my 4runner was produced BeFore the Modification...

"Some 2003 model year 4Runner vehicles may experience a VSC light ON condition and
DTC C1203 in the Skid Control Computer memory. A modification to the Skid Control
Computer logic has been made to prevent this condition."

The part number 89540–35320 for Skid control ABS module.. i can find on EBAY for less than $100 bucks.. BUT.... How would I know if the module is one that has been MODIFIED....

Would replacing the Computer Assembly Skid control with a modified unit even help? or would we still run into the same issue.... Used ones on EBAY....

Literally had this happen to our 2003 V8 Limited this morning, last time it happened i checked the gas cap and other likely things and it turned out to be the O2 sensor. I am going to fill it up and and check the gas cap then pull the battery and see if that fixes it. I dont recall, but i believe they only replaced one O2 sensor last time so it could well be the other.

easy

CODE: p0420

P0420 OBD-II Trouble Code: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) P0420 code means that either the upstream or downstream oxygen sensor in the catalytic converter is not working.Apr 6, 2016

It Worked! Reset and VSC lights off. There is youtube vid, and using the TSB as a guide, very helpful. I used two copper wires from an old electrical outlet.. for final step, i used wire nut to connect them together, while putting in terminals..

I made a video as well to help others... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2-DUB8LpEM But follow the steps in the TSB!

***As of now, Check Engine Light off. Will be installing New Downtream o2 sensor next... NOT buying $700 Cat..
