Check Engine Light

Seeing as how I posted an introduction thread a few moments ago, i figured now was a good time to try and seek help to tackle my first found issue. The CEL is on, and when checked it registers a p0420,which I was told is either the converter or o2 sensor. According to prior records the converter was replaced about 70k miles ago, but no records on the oxygen sensors. Anyway to test the converter, or should i replace sensors and go from there?

If there's no record of the sensors being changed I would start with them. What year runner?

I would first try getting some MAF cleaner and spraying down the Mass Air Flow sensor in the intake tube. I had a code a few months back (forget what it was) and it was supposed to pertain to the O2 sensors. I cleaned he MAF and the light went out (there was some special procedure I found online to get the computer to erase the code). However the light and code came back a few hundred miles later with the same issue, so I just replaced the MAF at Autozone.

Point is, I would be cautious about going out and buying new sensors unless they are cheap without testing them (if possible). Sorry if that didn't help much...

Sorry it is a 2000. I need to set up my signature whenever I get back to my laptop.

As well, I will clean the MAF as well just to be sure. I may do a cross reference of other vehicles who utilize the same o2 sensor and visit the junkyard to just check.
