Chrome Lovers?

OK, at the risk of being stoned to death on this Forum I am going to admit that I actually LIKE (maybe lovers was a bit too strong) the chrome on the 5th gens. Anybody else have the b***s to admit it?????? Bueller, Bueller, Bueller:D

Ditto. Love the relatively small amounts of chrome placed on my mag gray. Do not care for the blacked-out look. But, to each their own. I will say that I love the look of black wheels on just about every 4R I've seen, though.

I don't mind the chrome either. I have RWD so my vote probably doesn't count in this forum ;-)

Off to the mall I go...

I like mine as well, I would be curious to see what it would look like all color matched, but I would not black mine out (not that there is anything wrong with that) :)

After looking at all of the pictures on here I decided to go with the ATX Slot chrome wheels on my Blizzard Pearl. Very pleased with my decision! Apparently nobody liked it, so I went to Walmart and bought a case of Matte Black Krylon and painted it! I swear it has way more off-road capability now. Might even enter the BAJA 500 in the modded class. :hiding:

I like the small amount of chrome accents on the TE. I'd even consider chrome wheels if I found the right style because they clean up nicely and look good on the street.

Except for those wheels with the fake beadlock... that's just So Gay

I like the stock look well enough. I would, though, prefer the TE look, but the SR5 and Limited look is pretty cohesive.

I think that all of the body colors available on the 4Runner do a good job of taking the chrome that comes on the vehicle and making it look good. I don't HATE the chrome, and my wife likes it. If I had never come to this forum, I would never have known how good these things look blacked out, or how I like some of the color-matched features of the Canadian model.

But I came here. And I saw. And now I like the other options I have available to me.

I like mine as well, I would be curious to see what it would look like all color matched, but I would not black mine out (not that there is anything wrong with that) :)

That's the direction I'm likely headed with my SR5. I'm going to try to do as much as possible to keep it out of a complicated painting situation.

1) Ordering Salsa Red Pearl door handles (they exist in the Great White North).
2) Going with Matte Black Vinyl applications on the chrome strips on the front/rear bumpers and rocker panels.
3) Matte/Flat back for the end caps of the roof rails.
4) Painting everything on the front grill - the chrome "wings" and the oval surrounding the Toyota logo - to be Salsa Red Pearl, and leaving the Toyota emblem in the middle to be silver.
5) Replacing the chrome fog lamp bezels with black TE bezels. (since they're easy to take off, I may color-match them when #4 and #6 get painted.
6) The final fix is is the tricky one: Painting the rear garnish Salsa Red Pearl, while leaving the Toyota emblem and the "4Runner" letters to be chrome/silver.
7) Eventually - down the road - replace the front headlights with TE headlights.

Item #6 is the one I'd like the most advice about. I've seen folks heat up the Toyota emblem and 4Runner letters and remove them from the rear garnish, and then clean up the area, paint it black, and then put the emblem and letters (usually black, also) back on. Would I be better off, for alignment purposes, purchasing new "4Runner" letters, since they come off individually and may be a pain to re-align?

I don't mind most of the chrome accents, but there were certain things about the TE that seemed to catch my attention and highlight a bit of preference in certain areas. In the end the one piece of chrome on my black SR5 I would like to change is the chrome backplate under the "4Runner" on the lift gate. I like the TE's approach much better. The rest of the chrome I like.

I think the chrome looks good on my 5th gen SR5. It helps that my truck is black too. I've seen some trucks that have too much chrome, but that is my opinion.

So yeah, i like it. But, i could see maybe getting the door handles to match the color would be a nice option.

I can take it or leave it. It looks funny in places, especially that strip low on the front bumper, but it doesn't bother me enough to actually do anything about it.

Here are a couple of pics of mine - sorry there are not the best. It is a Cdn SR5 with upgrade. These wheels were on my 09 Tacoma 4x4 and lucky for me fit very nicely on the new 4Runner.

I like the chrome on my BP, I like the extra snazz it gives the truck.

Same here. I think it gives it a nice look without looking blingy. I can come off the beach, take it to the car wash and then go to a real nice restaurant (park it myself because I hate Valet parking, bunch of non driving hacks) and it fits right in.
