Chuckles' 98 Manual SR5 4Runner

Interesting find. I wonder if the cable would put stress on the backing plate....or if a stop to prevent excess pull would help? Stress cracks seem to be common at the collar.
Just a little thinking out loud, not dissing. It's the simplest I've seen so far, not that I've seen all that much. :)
And good morning!

I always thought that the cracks were from the motor seizing (with corrosion) in the diff housing. I JB Welded it back together... not sure how long it'll hold though

Mine has tiny cracks that I jb welded too. It was working free and clear but I can't say the e-locker's never been tapped against something. I did have to pry to get it off the diff, but stuck to prying the edges. I can see how prying it free from the dif could cause that too, as well as what you're saying. I'm thinking a side force wouldn't be healthy either, but don't know that the mechanical contraption would cause one or not.

Thinking it's a neat idea, just putting some thoughts out there.

I decided to come home this weekend because some of my parts came :)

Got my shifter seat in. It shifts a whole lot easier! The shifter socket didn't fit, so I'm still using the old one.

I got my new muffler clamped in and I absolutely love it!! It sounds really great and is 90% quiet!

Oh! I thought you were making exhaust work easier. :)

Still waiting on my seats, now FedEx is saying next Saturday....11 days! Glad yours is working great for you, and that the exhaust is what you want.

Oh of course!

Dang, that sucks. One of the reasons I didn't get the marlin seat is because the shipping from them is so much

Here's the exhaust

I finally realized why I think this new axle is magic... no, it doesn't have a secret LSD, but it's the fact that I don't have my rear sway bar on. With it off, I'm finding that I can go up so much more stuff with an open diff than with it on.

I got up this in 2wd open

Haven't posted an update in a while.... let's see if I cam remember what I've done/ what has happened

School is over!

2016-12-02 22.46.29.jpg

New OSC Tacoma #1985 Radiator- It is a couple inches shorter than a stock 4Runner one and I had to cut my shroud at the bottom for the lower hose and drain spout. I'm really impressed with the OSC quality. Also. Tacoma radiators use a different cap than a 4Runner radiator.
2016-12-04 14.58.19.jpg

E-Locker Cable Conversion- I have a cable ran and it locks, but I haven't made a way to un-lock it yet. I may try and work on it tonight if I feel like it. I have some more FB live videos to post on YouTube, but I haven't done that yet.

My steering rack is leaking pretty bad. It has had a slightly heavier feel this week. I'm probably going to get the Cardone Select New rack. Habanero, is this the one you have?

I replaced my PCV filter and added one for the driver's side valve cover engine breather.

2016-12-02 16.08.36.jpg

I picked up the rear bumper! There may be a tire/ fuel/ table swingout idea in the works for it...
2016-12-03 15.20.42.jpg

2016-12-03 15.21.01.jpg

I re-did my custom front fender liners with some rubber to replace the aluminum ones that were noisy.

I got a bunch of sensors for my middle-or-nowhere spare parts bag. IAC valve, TPS, both crankshaft position sensors, and the igniter DS-62 computer
2016-12-08 21.16.35.jpg

I got my OME trim packers installed in the rear. 2 on the driver's side and 1 on the passenger side. Gave me a little more rake and fixed the driver's side lean.

I'm thinking about doing an overland style trip to the Appalachians this next summer with a few friends... we'll see how that goes.

You've been really busy! That rear bumper looks really familiar but I can't place where I've seen it or its doppelganger.
Great job on getting the locker to cable activate and good luck on it going the opposite direction. If anyone can do it you can.

That sucks about the A1 Cardone rack. I actually found the AAE rack that's no longer on rockauto on Amazon for $320ish. I'm going to get that one since a lot of people here like them.

Aaaannndddddd.... I got the locker working last night! I just attached a spring to my lever and it works pretty good. This weekend will be the real test to see if it works though. I've never engaged it while driving before...

I had a great time! The forecast was for rain all day Saturday and snow/ freezing rain Sunday morning, but it turned out just fine! It started raining Sunday morning at 1:30 and the roads didn't freeze!

I changed my brake pads last night since they take 2 minutes per side and I wore the wear indicator down a lot over the weekend. I absolutely love the Akebono pads. They stop sooooo much better than the Toyota ones. Hopefully, they'll last longer than a year :frusty:

I also got my Morimoto projectors and stuff in the mail. I painted my headlights tonight. Hopefully, I can get the projectors mounted up later this week!

Was thinking of you guys this weekend, we had ice Friday and Saturday. Had to laugh about Hardees, sometimes on the last day of backpacking we skip breakfast, hike out and buy somebody else's cooking! Finest time!

Nice pics. :)
