On my 86 2.4 motor 4x4 the cig lighter socket went haywire over a period of time and I couldn't use my GPS or lighter.A fellow at the local auto parts installed a whole new unit and then I had no radio or clock.Checked the fuse and it was blown,but the radio and clock worked before I arrived at the auto parts store.Put in a new fuse and still those three units not working.The wires for the rado and lighter had been played with before by a previous owner the way it looks.Any help appreciated.

Checked the fuse that was put in yesterday and it also was blown this morning.so I popped another one in but like yesterday it didn't turn on the clock,radio or cig lighter.Didn't recheck to see if that one also met the same fate as the others.My hands are too messed up from pinched nerves to check the wiring so I'll have to wait till I can find some help.

You probably have a wire grounding out. I thought I had something similar happen, but it ended up one of the kids shoved a penny in the cig lighter and I only figured it out after I tore the whole dash apart.

Got this from crutchfield on a recent install in a 88 radio. Hacks who cut OEM harness for a radio should be shot. Uploaded!!

¹ The ground wire is BU/WT on 4-cyl. models and BN on 6-cyl. models.
² The WT wire triggers the rear speaker amps (each rear speaker has its own amp). The amps can be used if an aftermarket stereo is installed, just connect the new stereo's amp remote lead to the BU wire on the 70-1761 adapter. The amps must be bypassed if the rear speakers are replaced, but this will decrease the power from 20W to 6W.
