My ” CK Eng Light and VSC TRAC lights are off and solved I hope” but I have questions:
1. I had the T4R 07 SR5 V6 2WD scanned for a code at a local Auto Store (chain) free vs 129.00 at the dealer. It showed a small leak at the gas cap. I d/n think to ask the Tech for the code vs him tell and what it represented. Is the cap part of the emission sys that goes above the standard 3 yr warr? The O-Ring appeared over tightened and flattened on the old. Is that possible with the clicking that I felt seated it and stopped the tightening?
2. I installed his new gas cap. The Tech said the light should reset later. I asked if the scanner would detect the leak as solved and it did (the light also went off). Is turning the light off with the scanner risky vs letting the sys reset? I had it inspected afterwards and asked the inspector if resetting with the scanner was safe. He replied that that could have erased other codes and settings on the computer.
3. Are gas caps still inspected off the tank as in the past by the inspector? After 2-3 days the old O-Ring came back to full shape and I question it being better due to a denser O-Ring vs the new foam feeling O-Ring.
4. The new after-market cap w/n hook on the door reliably while fueling, nor is it designed to be held by the holding strap as the original.
5. How can the 2 Dealers called justify 129.00 to scan if the Auto Stores will scan free? Is there a difference in the quality of scans? My scan and cap might have been free where I purchased the certified T4R and Ext Warranty but the trip w/h cost more.
