I'm with you there, Kid! I have one whole day of driving just to get there, so I don't want to feel rushed once I'm there. Besides, once those who haven't been there see the place, they'll definitely want to take as much time as possible to explore. I highly recommend Charles Wells' guidebook (FunTreks is the company) for those who wish to get more familiar with the area before going, plus it's an excellent companion once you're there--full maps, directions to get there, GPS coordinates, pics, full on-trail descriptions.

Nice shot of Rose Garden Hill! I haven't had the pleasure of driving it myself, but it definitely sounds fun. I took some of the more casual routes when I visited, seeing as how I was running solo, and in a stock 2nd Gen with open diffs. Did you take Onion Creek going in? I went out that one, but only to the ranch, then back out the same way. Hurrah Pass was a nice drive, too--great scenery at the Pass, but if I go there again, I want to keep going to Chicken Corners, and maybe Lockhart Basin. Any more pics you have would be sweet!

Don't let a stock rig stop you. These trucks were insanely capable straight off the factory floor, with good gearing and lots of clearance. A stock runner on a good set of tires can do probably 90% of the trails around Moab.
 
I don't care if we have to let those nerdy 3gens come along, but this is going to be just Toyotas, though, right? I mean, none of those weird Chevy/Toyota abominations? 'Cuz I'd like to see this trip stay family friendly.

I was with a group. We started just outside Fruita Colorado, took the Kokopelli trail (121 miles, all offroad) to Moab. Rose Garden Hill was in route.

Just for that, Bob is now your official recovery vehicle. Whenever you get stuck, the guy with the Chevy engine can pull you out. I seriously doubt Bob is ever getting stuck.

As far as how long, I could do a week. I will have kids in school and my wife in Afghanistan, but I can manage a week with the guys after 8 months of only kids.

**sniff sniff** what's wrong with a chevy engine in a toyota? Jeep Safari was tough on my little runner, I've got a rod knock, and easy access to a 4.3 vortec. MOAR POWR. It's sad too considering I only gotta run Hells Revenge twice the whole time. Of course the second time we were saving a tow truck :).

Not sure what else you expected, taking a perfectly good 4Runner to an event named "Jeep".

Moab must have become quite the town in the 21st Century. Back when I was hiking the area in the 80's I didn't see much to remember. I wouldn't go back, though, until college football seasons are in full swing. What are the liquor laws like?
 
I'm already not scheduled October 12th through the 15th, that's my weekend, and I can add to that with a vacation day or two if I have to, so anything right around there would work great for me.
