Classics go to Moab?

87 T4R Front/Rear Air lockers w/ 30s on 4 inch lift, hopefully should have them up to 33s by then. I have very little experience rock crawling due to just recently buying my runner for the fact of doing so, given i actually live in Moab and have been wanting to join in on the local fun for a while.


Also if any plan on staying at a RV park or Hotel i really recommend reserving a room or plot. We are typically very busy still in October.

With a 4 inch lift you won't have a huge amount of trouble, but I recommend at least sliders if you can swing it. As it sits your rig will do anything mine will, so you should be fine. You'll have to be a little more careful on the tippy stuff, but you'll clear ledges better. :)

I'm probably gonna stick to the easier trails. I have to drive my rig home so I will need to be somewhat conservitive.

I have done some rock crawling in my 01' Wrangler (the pics below) which had a 4 inch lift on 33s. Done a lot of off road with an 89 Extra Cab Toy. It wasn't lifted and was riding on 31s. Haven't done much off road with my bone stock 87 T4R. Which is terrible cause I have had her for a year.

My rig is not armored

I do not have oversized tires... :( Just sitting on some itty bitty 235 Good Year Wranglers. There is a slight chance I will get some 31s before the trip, but doubtful.

Im down for primitive camping... no problems crappin in the woods.

Im completely stock. I do hope to have new rear springs before Moab, I have to get rid of that sag!

Im still not 100% on going. My job is up in the air right now but I will have a better idea soon... I hope....

Pittdawg, sliders and 31s will get you almost anywhere we end up deciding to go. If you feel like making a little drive, there's a guy down here in Ogden that'll build and install a basic set of sliders for $150... not half bad, if you ask me.
 
Saw on the news this morning that Moab is under a RED FLAG fire warning. Best check to see if off-roading will be affected by a fire ban.

It was on FOX news, but there was a lot of area that was shaded in red due to the dry conditions, and fires that were already going.

Moab was on the map, but they didn't go into specifics. Figured a Moab local could focus in closer to their area than I could.

I just posted the info as a heads up.

Well, we have quite a bit of time before we're headed that way--hopefully things will have changed by then. I would imagine a lot of the restrictions would be closer to the mountains (where the heavier forest cover is), and the specific areas with heavier vegetation. The Black Hills have been very dry this year, too.

Wish I could meet up with you all at Moab. It's a given that when I go camping it will rain. Hasn't failed yet.

Here's what was forecasted to be 80 and sunny on my last trip to Rausch Creek PA. Notice all the 'liquid' sunshine?

Kid do you have any pics of these sliders?
 
What's your opinions on communications out there? So far our group in the Black Hills has been using simple walkie talkies (I have 5 of them), but should I look into acquiring a CB before the trip? I eventually want one anyway (many groups use them, plus they're handy on long road trips), but I'm wondering if you guys feel that's the best plan for us staying in touch on the trails.

For the $100, yes everyone should have a CB. There are some nice handheld units that temporarily "mount" in your rig http://www.midlandradio.com/CB-Radio.WYQ/75-822 Can be bought for $80 . There are plenty of places that a rig will get out of sight (one rig over an obstacle at a time, other rigs waiting for that rig to clear).

As to the GPS question from earlier, Cabela's has a killer sale on the Garmin Oregon 450T through the holiday--originally $450-500 (in-store is lower than online), now $279! I was looking at it today, and will probably grab one tomorrow at our local store. It's a very nice unit, with topos already loaded, 3D map capability (extra to add later), plus all the expected goodies of a better GPS unit. You can order it online and have it delivered if you're not near a store. One more item checked off the list!
