So how difficult is it to get to the camp site? Is it just trails,or rocks, brush or anything like that? Ill probably be bringing the f250 out there if its not a narrow brush filled road lol. She is a street queen so scratches make me cry lol
You should be fine, Venom--the vast majority of camping areas are along/near main routes. I'm not sure where we'll be staying, but there isn't an abundance of brush away from the creekbeds and rivers out there, so your "queen" should stay pristine. Bumpy dirt roads should be the worst it'll see.
I had a look at BFE this weekend, and I agree with Gerdo, we don't want to camp there unless we absolutely have to. We've got three options, really:
Make reservations at an RV park. This would have us in town, with bathrooms and showers, and no solitude at all. Probably the most expensive option, tent pads will run from $10-$15 a night. Cabins are more. Hotels are even more, of course.
There's pay campgrounds big enough for a decent size group up Sand Flats Road (fee area), and out Highway 128. Not too far from town, vault toilets, also no solitude. Less expensive than an RV park.
Then there's Gerdo's secret spot. This is probably 30-45 minutes south of town, with no services at all. I wouldn't want to take a passenger car out there, but anything trucklike should handle the road out just fine. As Gerdo noted, this is a pristine and sensitive area - we'd be packing everything out with us, including our poo. It's also free, and beautiful.
Personally, I like distributed/primitive camping when I'm by myself. With a group like we're likely to have, it probably wouldn't be ideal though. I vote for option one.
