Classics go to Moab?

So far, Moab Rim is the only place in town I've found that allows campfires. It's also one of the less expensive places. It's on the very north end of town, outside the main drag, but not so far that it'd be a hassle. They have cabins and RV sites too, if that's your thing, and there's 2 hotels right across the street for the wimps, I mean, for the guys bringing their wives. :D

I'll keep looking, but I think this is our best bet. If I can't sit around a campfire telling lies and drinking a beer or two, I'd just as soon stay in a hotel.

Ziggs, you live in Moab, is there a better place to stay? How big is your back yard? ;)

We picked the right weekend for this, by the way. I jsut checked the Moab calendar and there's a bike race the weekend before and a marathon the weekend after.

:reddance:

Hey, there's a campground at the trailhead of Pritchett Canyon. No, I'm not suggesting we run that trail (it's a beast), but the site is tucked back in the rocks, yet still very close to town. Just an idea...

I like the sites at Williams Bottom, I've camped there before. The problem with those is they're first come first served. It would suck goat balls to plan on being there and then find out somebody else got there first - with all of us arriving at different times and such, that'd be chaos trying to find somewhere else that would fit us all at the last minute, and then trying to let everybody else know where we're meeting at.

Read you loud and clear, Kid! Didn't know it was non-reserved--best to stick with something we can lock in.

T-minus 3 months and counting.

So who has mods planned between now and October? I've got 33s and 5.29s coming, probably not much else.

  • Footofgod (Bill) "S.S. Minnow" 91 T4R, 31's, lifted, armored, rear locker, max diff 7-8ish.
  • KidVermicious (Kevin) "Four Squirrels of Fury" 86 T4R, 30ish, lifted, armored, rear locker/front LSD, max diff 6-7ish.
  • Helo + Venom - Doesn't know yet
  • BucknutBob "Abomination" 95 T4R, SAS, 35s (?), front and rear lockers.
  • Ziggs 87 T4R lifted with 30's, front and rear lockers.
  • GonOver (Nate) 92 on tons with stuff.

I've got some planned (in fact my sliders are being built as I write this), but first I STILL have to solve my newest absurd/ridiculous/makes-no-sense vehicle mystery--why my truck won't cool properly. It's fine with an ambient temp of about 70 or lower, but anything higher and my coolant temp just keeps crawling upward. I've been working with Nate on this, and I've pretty much done the things that work just fine on his, but it's not enough to overcome whatever curse seems to be on MY rig. If I ever figure this one out (and there isn't ANOTHER pain-in-the-youknowwhere waiting to take its place), I'd like to get my front axles upgraded before we go, along with getting my ARB bumper adapted/installed, and new skins on the wheels. Not making any promises with this reluctant beast, though.

Well the wife gave me the go for this trip. With that being said. 3 link front, 4 link rear, front and rear bumpers, rhino spare tire mount, sliders, fuel cell, and fuel injection. It's gonna be tight but doable. Ha, who am I kidding. I will probably only get bumpers and injection done. Well here's to long nights between now bad then.

Officially I am not lifted yet. Finally settled the insurance claim with the post office and got my money to order the rest of the parts that got lost in transit. Should officially be lifted before the end of July. I pulled my interior so I can do the bed liner and rubber mats instead of stinky carpet. Looking for new tires. Also plan to have a new rear bumper and sliders installed.

Anyone made camp reservations yet?

We can probably get a group rate, if we can get enough folks to commit and pay in advance...

Which campground did you feel was best when you went there? I can pay now if we all want to start reserving a site. Most places allow two tents per site so it would be cheaper if we pair up (that just sounds wrong).

I haven't been to all of them. I've seen Moab Rim Campark (Moab Utah Cabins and Campground, tent sites, RV spaces), and I think it's the best out of all the sites that allow campfires (most of them don't). They have a group site that's eight bucks per person per night, with an 8 person minimum, which comes out to $64 bucks a night. If it was just the six of us that are definitely going (and we faked two more people that will mysteriously not be able to make it at the last minute), and we reserved it for 4 nights, that'd come to about $40 each. If we actually had eight people committed, it'd be $32 each.

I don't think it's a good idea to try and prorate anybody - the regular rate is $22 a night, so $32 for 4 nights is a screaming deal, even if you don't use all of them, and I really think trying to deal with that math would be a nightmare.

The only issue I see with that is that we were not all planning to be there exactly at the same time. Are the 4 nights in question the 11-14th? I want to try and leave earlier and be there on Monday and stay till the next Monday, but the 11th thru the 14th is definite.

I guess we need to find a set of nights that at least 6 of us are going to be there, or are at least willing to pay for :D. I'm probably coming out the 9th or 10th, and staying through at least Saturday 13th. I've got no problem paying for the 14th even if I don't stay that long.

I will be there by the 9th for sure. I hope to actually get there on the 8th and dont plan on leaving till the 14th. I am in on whatever fee we need to pay up front. Also I will be +1 so that covers 2 of the "8" needed. Let me know who to paypal or mail payment to if this is the route we wanna go.

Mods planned: sliders (at the house waiting to be installed), 33s and some rust repairs. I want to lock the rear with a Spartan but I refuse to do this without re-gearing at the same time and I don't have the funds for that right now.

Well were all not caravaning there. We are coming from all sorts of different parts of the U.S. when it comes to the meet up I think that is definitely going to be a wing it deal. Nobody can for sure predict travel times. I think we should choose who's going to show up first. Then send money through paypal to that person to set everything up. That way its not a cluster F-. This way its fair and no one person is out the money for a no show. We do need a for sure number though, so all of the plus 1's etc. need to be setup well in advance. Im assuming more than just me is trailing mine in. Truck and trailer parking will be important.

Im with Kid on Moab Rim Camp Park

I'll definitely be driving mine--I don't think my Civic would do well pulling the rig and a trailer (LOL). That Moab Rim campground sounds cool with me. Let me know who to send the money to and I'll lock in. I'll need just one tent spot, so if someone wants to share a double spot, I'm game. Nate, great to hear you can make it!
